The Year of "Gentle Striving"

What is "Gentle Striving"?

Something I made up to help guide me in 2023.

As a type-A, go-go-go-er, eager to get things done yesterday and go 100 mph 100% of the time (yeah, my poor therapist right?), I have struggled to slow down at times. This year, I am looking to honor both my ambitious and passionate side that wants to learn and grow, along with the part of me that craves rest, needs to recharge and approaches goals with a healthy dose of self-compassion and patience.

As Ferris Bueller said wisely, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you just might miss it."

And life- in all its beauty and complexity- would be a pretty sad thing to miss.

Happy New Year to you and your loved ones. Let's make 2023 a great year full of growth, gratitude and "Gentle Striving"!

All the best,

Bryn

January Book:

"Emotional Agility"

This is a fantastic book. If you want a taste, check out her incredible 16-minute Ted Talk: "The Gift and Power of Emotional Courage" in which she talks about the use of journaling in her emotional journey. Even 20 minutes a day has been proven to have impacts. If you want a new habit for the new year, it is one worth considering.

I love this song.

Not sure if you have heard this song on the radio, but it is great: catchy and boppy, but also with an important message: companies profit off our struggles with body image.

CW: The song includes some description of eating disorder behaviors and body image distress.
