Movement recommences...
Following the announcement of the COVID restrictions being released, the Sturts Steps team was delighted to see the arrival of the new museum structures appearing at Milparinka & Tibooburra. To see where we are up to on all the elements read more below and see more images on the website.
Museums
The 2 museum structures are now in place and are being equipped with the amazing stories of the history of the region in time for the tourism peak season 2022.
Sculptures
From our last update, you will remember the Sturt National Park additions of the Bilby, Bandicoot & Quoll, by amazing sculptures Ivan Lovett and Brian Campbell. Well we now have in place a beautiful piece by Gritta Walker in Milparinka paying tribute to the many letters written to family and friends from Milparinka, Bonnie Quayle's stunning Aboriginal inspired piece also located in Milparinka, and not long away are the pieces by Ian Marr, Tabula Risa at Packsaddle and another piece by Ivan Lovett of a Cameleer and his camel to be on display in Tibooburra. Thank you to West Darling Arts for their assistance with this project.
Interpretation Signage
Our information posts are now in production and will be commencing to pop up in locations across the 1,100 kilometres in the coming months. Soon after, the 9 Interpretation Shelters will be strategically placed in locations of historical significance telling multiple tales of the location they are placed.
Way-finding Signage
The Transport NSW team is in location this week as they confirm all the necessary arrangements before procurement of the 126 signs that will be erected across Sturts Steps to help navigate tourists across the region.
In addition, work is commencing on the Camp Kitchens in Milparinka and Tibooburra again and the Post Office refurbishment program will start to see a roof being erected over the top of the Milparinka Post Office to protect and preserve it for future generations.
And there is much happening with the digital integration of the content so visitors can access information with their own device and not mention the development of the Night Sky Park in Milparinka. To keep updated, view the project website with updated photos and content before it is officially launched in March 2022. Stay tuned for more information on the official launch of Sturt's Steps.
