To mark the World Oceans Day 2021,

the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Mauritius
and the Republic of Seychelles,

and the Indian Ocean Commission,

in collaboration with E€OFISH programme and its implementing partners

are pleased to invite you to pause and reflect for a moment upon the challenges and potential of our oceans. This event will bring regional development institutions, countries and NGOs representatives closer to the public.

---------

“Human unsustainable activity as well as climate and biodiversity crises are threatening the sustainability of the ocean.  It is high time that we realise that the ocean is essential to human presence on earth, is a critical carbon sink to fight climate change and serves as the backbone of our food security: therefore we must  protect it.  Ocean sustainability features prominently in our European Green Deal to answer to the climate and biodiversity crises that affect our ocean.  The COVID-19 outbreak is yet another eye-opener and we need to see how ocean can contribute in the post-Covid blue-green recovery”.

H.E. Vincent Degert

Ambassador of the EU to the Republic of Mauritius and the Republic of Seychelles

“All our countries share a common oceans agenda that promotes security and growth, and furthers the resilience of our ecosystems as well as the well-being of our populations. For our islands particularly - as island States, there is a window of opportunity in terms of sustainable development through the sustainable management of ocean resources and investment in new sectors of the Blue Economy.”.
