Funding for habitat projects through the National Fish Habitat Partnership Board is expected Fall 2021. Successful applicants will be notified after funding is allotted.
With the recent passing of America's Conservation Enhancement Act, the timeline for National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) funding allocation is shifting. Therefore, the Desert Fish Habitat Partnership (DFHP) is looking to get the word out now on our upcoming RFP for FY2022 projects. Notable changes for FY2022 and beyond include:
- Timeline shift: proposals due early in a calendar year, funds allocated at the beginning of the fiscal year (FY2022 project funding is expected to be made available October 2021)
- DFHP is expecting to receive more funding than in previous years to distribute to project applicants starting with FY2022 projects
- There is a new 1:1 non-federal match requirement. This will likely apply to the amount of funds requested, but this is still yet to be determined
The DFHP RFP process and types of eligible projects will likely remain the same, with the exception of the changes noted above. To review the FY2021 RFP documents in preparation for FY2022, click here. Given that this is a transition year for the NFHP program, projects would greatly benefit from having inherent or built-in flexibility as we all navigate through these changes.
Eligible Projects: Projects considered for funding address science-based habitat protection, restoration, and enhancement activities that benefit desert native fish species addressed by DFHP (for a complete species list, visit the DFHP Strategic Plan). NFHP funds must be used for on-the-ground habitat projects and related project design and monitoring activities. Eligible projects are may include riparian or instream habitat protection, enhancement, and restoration; barrier removal or construction; range-wide population or watershed habitat assessments to prioritize and plan habitat conservation; and habitat-related community outreach and education actions.
