Nantwich Buddies

September Newsletter

The last month has been marvellous for us all here at Buddies HQ! We kicked off the start of August with our long-awaited IN-PERSON get together at the Farmers Arms in Ravensmoor to celebrate all the fantastic work our volunteers have done.
Unfortunately, not all our Buddies and local dignitaries could attend due to holidays but those who did had a fantastic time meeting each other in person and socialising together for the first time since lockdown.

A massive Thank you to Cheshire East for funding this evening and Cllr Sarah Pochin, Mayor of Cheshire East for joining us and her very kind words to our fantastic Buddies!

Read our fantastic blog from local author and Nantwich Buddy Mark Bickerton about the evening and what it meant to him.

Nantwich Buddies help Cheshire East with Afghan refugee donations

Last month our Buddies offered to assist Cheshire East Council with sorting public donations for incoming Afghan refugee families being rehomed in the borough.
Along with other local community groups, our volunteers were faced with a mountain of donated goods which we helped to sort and bag for the CEC Afghanistan Appeal.

Happiness Hub Community Groups

In addition to our Happiness Hub Podcast and Happy Appy, we bring to you Happiness Hub Community Groups starting on Tuesday 28th September.

The Buddies will be running the weekly informal community group at the Granary Arts Cafe on Welsh Row, a friendly and welcoming place to meet and chat with people.

Everyone is welcome to come along enjoy some cake and coffee and get to meet and socialise with people in Nantwich.

Every month the group will have a happiness and wellbeing theme, a guest speaker and activity members can take part in.

Buddies are still making a big difference in our community

Over the last few months, the Buddies coordinators have been taking stock and completed an audit to review how many clients we are currently supporting and how many volunteers are still able to help.

We’re still making a big difference in the community and supporting 53 households in Nantwich and our volunteer group is still 84 Buddies strong.

Our group of Team Leaders help us to monitor all the great work our buddies do by recording the tasks and hours our volunteers complete each week. This is really important to ensure we always know who we’re still supporting and what support we are providing. We’re still being asked to support people on a regular basis and we don’t see this stopping any time soon! We’re really glad to still be making a difference in our community.

Youth Club Volunteers needed

Kieran Mullan MP recently got in touch with the Buddies as the Guy Harvey Centre Youth Club in Nantwich is looking for volunteers and businesses to support and help restart running sessions at the Centre on a Friday and Saturday night.

The Centre is also welcoming any donations or resources that they could use to run activities for young people in the area. If you work with young people already and have skills and experiences you can offer get in touch.

Email kieran.mullan.mp@parliament.uk or call 01270 583 432 if you're interested or would like to know more.
