Dear WCSS community, Wishing you a belated New Year.. although in some ways it feels as if this year hasn’t started yet!
At this stage we are very grateful to have had a full term at school before Christmas, in order for our school community and culture to begin to grow and connect. Friendships were forged, interests explored and some sort of a rhythm flowed. On any given day you might find people in the art room, working with clay, sewing or painting; baking in the kitchen (we ate so much cake last term!); gymnastics in the meeting room; someone strumming a guitar or ukulele in the music room; or a group gaming in what we call the discovery room. There has been drama, science, nature and gymnastics clubs; parties; meetings... |

...and now we are here, another lockdown, and uncertainty as to when we can return to our building. In the last few weeks we have created a ‘Zoom School’, with a weekly timetable of clubs and hangouts, mimicking school and adding some requests. We have setup an online work platform for the students to share projects and ideas or just stay in touch. It is hard to recreate school online, but there is something there for those who choose to interact. We hope we can be back in Glengarriff again sooner rather than later, and fill that space we grew to cherish so much with laughter, creativity, contemplation, music, grand ideas, the smell of freshly cooked lunches and baked goods.... |

In good news we received our charity status just before Christmas, which will hopefully help us in securing funding and donations. As we receive no state funding this is really important to support the school, further information at the bottom of this email. |

In more good news, things are moving ahead with our more long term home for the school so we can move there for this September. The new home has lots more outdoor space, including woodlands, gardens and an old tennis court! Watch this space for more info. |

Lastly, anyone considering enrolment for the next school year, 2021/22, make sure to submit your expression of interest form (EOI) on the website in our Admissions section as soon as possible in order for us to allocate places. Enrolment happens on an ongoing basis, dependent on the school community make up and other factors. In order to be on the waiting list we have to have received the EOI and the €30 admin fee. |
