Keeping Secrets now available on Amazon and Kindle!

My debut novel has now been published so to celebrate, we held a virtual book launch on 11th October via Zoom Video which was a great success.  For those that could not make it you can watch a recording on my YouTube Channel or click on the video below

(33 mins)

Keeping Secretsis the product of two and a half years of hard work.  I always wanted to become a novelist but was never really sure if it would happen.  With the support of Andrew (my husband) and Lynn (my bestie) I have finally achieved my dream.  At the launch event  we did a Q&A session and one of the questions was “what next?”

Well, there is a second and a third novel in the Shady Fields Series planned, so watch this space for news of progress as it happens

If you haven't already, you can order your copy of Keeping Secrets from Amazon in paperback or Kindle editions.  There are signed copies available from my website shop www.wendycharlton.co.uk that make great personalised Christmas gifts and stocking fillers.

 What do new authors need?

The book market has changed hugely in the last decade. There's a growth in independent bookshops for the first time in years and that coincides with a reduction in popularity of e-books.  The reality is that true bookworms don’t just love to read, they love the tangible, tactile qualities of a real book.  The number of people who have said to me they love the experience of turning real pages, studying the artwork on the cover and the experience of ‘smelling book’.  There were fears in the industry that reading for pleasure was losing popularity and yet, the lockdown has reconnected many people with that pleasure once again.  New authors need that readership and exposure for their books.  They depend on real people who will invest hours of their time reading their book. But more importantly, those who will then take the time to review that book online.  It turns out that 88% of book purchases (fiction and nonfiction) are made using an online recommendation from someone else.   The main review sites include Amazon, Goodreads and Bookbubs.  Those reviews are valuable as they make the difference between ordinary and bestsellers.  There is no doubt that book reviews give debut authors in particular the exposure and visibility they need to break into one of the most competitive industries in the world.  So next time you read a great book, do the author a favour and pen a review, they will really appreciate it.

Local Book Signing

It has proved quite a challenge to launch the book in these strange times.  The normal activities that would surround the release of a debut novel have been limited by lockdown restrictions.  My local Farm shop and craft centre 'Deer Park' in Maker Lane Hoar Cross host local artisans at weekends, so on Saturday 17th October I held a local book signing which was a great success.  Lots of new and old friends came along to support me, so a big thanks to everyone who came along.  It was great.  I plan to organise more of them so watch this space.
