Greetings, Academy Families and Friends, Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! We are more excited than ever to be back into the school routine. It has been a tremendous feeling to watch our Academy community come together as we navigate the ups and downs of the global pandemic and what it means for our school. I am so grateful for the support, flexibility and creativity that you all bring to our school community, and we are all feeling the satisfaction of being able to work with your children again! You have all done an amazing job in teaching your children how to wear masks, and the importance of washing hands and keeping physical distance. Thank you for being true partners in the education of your children. A couple of reminders, as we continue into the fall: |
|
Our arrival plan is working well in terms of using multiple doors to lessen the amount of people in the hallway. All students in grades K, 3, 5 and 6 should take the paved path around the building by the woods to get to their doors. Please do not take the road by the gym. Although we try not to have any vehicles in this area during arrivals, we are not comfortable with anyone walking this way, as a safety precaution. At 8:25 or later, all students enter through the front doors. Someone from the office will be there to screen students if needed. If your student is going to be absent, from hybrid learning or remote learning, please call the office so we are aware. Wednesdays are largely asynchronous for students. Make sure to check out the incredible offerings of our Enrichment Teachers. They have gone above and beyond to create engaging online lessons that are accessible to all students. Don’t forget to watch The Nebula News! Ms. Davenport has created this newscast as an alternative to All School Sing, and it’s super fun! We are very supportive of students spending as much time outside as possible. Please make sure your child has extra socks and lots of layers each day so they can be as comfortable as possible!
As always, please reach out if we can help you in any way. The power of this community is unstoppable, and it is my absolute pleasure and honor to serve as your leader. Be well, Kelly |

Nurses' Notes It was great to see the Academy School community rise to the challenges of this brand new normal. There was a lot to learn - about health screenings, mask wearing, hand washing, and keeping a safe distance. Everyone, from parents to kids to staff, worked really hard to create a great return to school that was just as safe as we could make it. Reminder: those screening tickets are an important part of the puzzle, so make sure you fill those out and send them in every day. We have two nurses in the health office this year, and families should feel free to get in touch with Amy Majer, RN or Matthew Wright,RN if they have any questions or concerns about anything health related, COVID or not. Stay safe! |

For all those students, families, and staff that are new to Academy School, I would like to introduce you to Soxy. Soxy and I are a certified team through an organization called Therapy Dogs of Vermont (TDV). Research shows that therapy dogs may: decrease anxiety, lower people's blood pressure and stress levels, increase levels of dopamine and serotonin, dramatically increase positive mood, ease social isolation and help children learn social skills, improve physical well-being, and help young readers gain confidence. Due to Covid-19, Therapy Dogs of Vermont has suspended visits in the building. Soxy and I are hoping that soon we will be able to roam the halls of Academy School and visit with students and staff so that we can continue the mission of TDV to touch hearts, bring joy, offer comfort, and enrich lives. |
