FLUSH wants to thank its fans for sharing with us pictures of historical toilets from their international travels! See below some of our recent favorites.

Have interesting toilets you'd like to have showcased in this newsletter? Email us!

Marion A shared a picture of a public toilet in Rome, Italy. These toilets were probably built in the 4th century AD.

Did people really sit next to each other while relieving themselves? That's debatable by some, but others say that wrapping a toga discretely enough made some sense of privacy regardless.

Danielle GR shared a picture of a Mayan toilet in Palenque, Mexico. This toilet dates back from the 8th century AD, when Palenque was a booming, beautiful metropolis and the Mayans were at the height of their civilization. The ruins show not only toilets for men and women, but also of aqueducts surrounding the palace there.

Nikki S shared a picture of a toilet in Istanbul, Turkey. This toilet is in the Topkapi Palace and is probably from the 16th century AD. According to our sources, this toilet was likely in the sultan's private chambers.

Something we love about this toilet: The washing basin right next to the hole!

Lastly, if you don't want to get any more emails from us ever again, that's okay! Just let us know via email, and we'll remove you from our list.
