Come and see why parents and kids love cohousing!

If you would like to meet us, learn more about our cohousing project, and find out how to join us as a future neighbor, we invite you to join our next information session. Little ones can stay with you while you learn about cohousing, our plans and how you can join us. Older kids can play and read books with a community babysitter.

Our community now has 13 committed households with people ranging in age from 2 to 82. We also have several more explorer households. We are about to start wait lists for our smaller homes, but have 3 and 4 bedroom homes available for families with children.

Successful County Commission Hearing

A Big Thank you to the more than 130 Vecinos Del Bosque neighbors and other friends of cohousing who supported our Special Use Permit Application by signing petitions in support, writing letters to the County and attending the County Commission Hearing on April 9th. Our Special Use Permit was confirmed with a 4:1 supermajority vote by the County Commissioners. Your support means a lot to us!

Find out how a single mother gained 2 to 3 hours to spend with her children after work.

The hour-long documentary film 'Happy' has a beautiful segment about a single mother and her experience of living with her children in cohousing. The woman interviewed in 'Happy' about her cohousing arrangement cooks just a few times a month, her children have built in playmates, she can run out to the grocery story to get milk anytime because there is someone around to watch her kids, she has grown-up friends to eat dinner with every night, she has more amenities/facilities than she could ever have living on her own and she has time to spend two to three hours after work with her kids rather than planning, shopping cooking and cleaning up a meal every night.  In short, she has community — something we know from research has a strong positive impact on our overall well-being.

It Takes a Village...

People living in cohousing have private homes, but also share a lot of common space and resources. The way things are physically and socially designed creates the support system and sense of connection found in traditional villages.

Growing up in cohousing offers so many great opportunities for kids:

  • Children are valued participants in a multi-generation village.
  • Cohousing provides a safe environment to play and explore. Cars are kept at the periphery.
  • Children can gain confidence by having freedom of movement within the neighborhood.
  • Other kids of all different ages are around to plan and learn to look out for each other.
  • Play dates don't require planning or driving. Social life in cohousing is built in.
  • Children can form valuable relationships with people of all ages.
  • Children can gain skills from trusted adults with different interests and skills.
  • Kids can grow up in a culture that emphasizes inclusion and treating people with respect.
  • An endless stream of hand-me-downs from older kids in the community: clothes, toys, bikes...
  • A shared library of high-quality books and games to play.

Raising kids in a supportive village setting is priceless! Join us as a future neighbor!
