"Talent is Buzzing to Bee Pesticide-Free!"
It’s official! The City Council in Talent unanimously adopted Talent’s
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Policy on December 5, 2018!
The IPM applies to all city-managed lands including parks, to phase out synthetic pesticides (including glyphosate) by the end of 2021, prioritize prevention and
non-chemical control methods, and safeguard the health, safety and welfare of
people, pollinators, pets and the environment.
The Talent Public Works Department recognized the hard work of many
engaged citizens and officials in the news release.

Medford to Bee the Next Bee City USA?
We so appreciate Amrita Cottrell Jackson and Robert Coffan of Southern Oregon Monarch Advocates for their great presentations to the Medford Parks and Recreation Commission on January 22nd to make the case for pollinators!
With a great show of support from the Medford Garden Club, Medford residents,
and 3 of the 4 local Bee City USAs!
The Parks commissioners voted unanimously to move ahead with drafting a resolution to designate Medford a Bee City USA, which will bee presented
to City Council for a vote.
We think we will soon have 5 Bee City USAs in the Valley!
Live in Medford and want to get involved? PM Amrita

Bugged by Climate Change: Insects in a Changing Climate
Tuesday, February 26, 6pm - 7:30pm
Large Meeting Room, Medford Library, 205 S. Central
We know about dwindling snowpacks and polar ice caps, and increasing wildfire risk,

The next Southern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) general meeting
will explore what is happening to insects and why.
Join us for presentations by Kristina Lefever, Pollinator Project Rogue Valley,
Alan Journet, Southern Oregon Climate Action Now,
and Robert Coffan, Southern Oregon Monarch Advocates.

Pollinators' Picks
Research confirms what PPRV supporters have long known - urban gardens provide essential food for pollinators, especially given the decline of wild food sources. The Guardian reported on a study, just published in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution, confirming that gardens and landscapes in urban areas are crucial for the health and longevity of pollinator species,
and in fact can be pollinator ‘hotspots’ and sanctuaries.
Connecting pollinator habitat is also important.
If your pollinator garden is in the Rogue Valley, let's map it!

The Times They Are A-Changin’
We are seeing evidence that the times are truly changing and people are
realizing the dangers of pesticides. Almost every week there is big news
towards this recognition in the US and worldwide.
The French government recently released a glyphosate phase-out plan
and households across France have been banned from using glyphosate.
The non-profit Mom’s Across America announced that they are working with Costco to remove Roundup from shelves after a successful Facebook petition.
A lawsuit brought by beekeepers and a number of environmental organizations against Bayer, Syngenta, and other chemical companies in 2013 has been settled and "sets in motion a number of actions and expectations, among which is the potential cancellation of the 59 pesticide registrations"
(2 of which are neonicotinoids - clothianidin and thiamethoxam).
