Over eighty years since the Holocaust began, violent antisemitism remains a threat. The lessons of this history have never been more relevant and will be the focus of this solemn event marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day—designated by the United Nations to be January 27, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Join us as survivors reflect on and honor the lives of Europe’s Jews—who were targeted for annihilation—other victims of Nazi persecution, and individuals who chose to help.

What a surprise to have guest Robert Weinger with ShofarSoGreat. Robert made aliyah to Israel several years ago but was in the Augusta area for a visit and came to bless the Augusta Jewish Museum and sound the shofar in the old synagogue. Thank you!

Despite the pouring rain, a capacity audience of almost 100 people observed the presentation and dedication of historic markers provided by the Rev. Pierre Robert Chapter of Colonial Dames which was held in the Linda Beasley Room of the Municipal Building followed by tours of the AJM Education Center and future Cultural Center, light refreshments, and the preview of AJM Stories, a compilation of Oral Histories partially funded by Georgia Humanities and coordinated by local videographer Mark Albertin. Treasures from the AJM Archive

Augusta Jewish Museum is grateful to the local playwright and member of the Jewish Community Lowell M. Greenbaum for donating copies of some of his plays to AJM. Pictured here is Lowell with his wife Gloria. Of particular interest for International Holocaust Remembrance Day is his play "Where Was the World" with the title page pictured here. The play was performed at the Augusta Museum of History years ago and is now in the AJM archives to benefit future generations.

Our AJM Display Team

As you can imagine, creating Museums including the Augusta Jewish Museum takes a great deal of planning, research, and effort. Please visit our website to learn more about the project.
