This Month at the Rescue

By Sid Williams

Gidget recovered from surgery and went to his new home! Thank you again to all of you that donated to get him his surgery. As SOON as he woke up from surgery he was a happier kitty: friendlier and snugglier. He must’ve been in quite a bit of pain beforehand. This is the exact sort of case we specialize in here at Smiley’s Rescues: those animals that have been mistreated and need some expertise and dedication to see them through until we get them to their forever home. Your generosity means Gidget can live pain-free for the first time since he was a kitten. Thank you all for your support and donations. We could not have done it without you. It was extremely hard on me to see him go working so hands-on with him for so long but it definitely helps knowing he went to some of the most amazing people.

Once Gidget was placed in his furr-ever home, we had about 2 weeks before we were set to take the new kittens in we had talked about in our first newsletter and a little on our social media platforms! During this time I stayed BUSY behind the scenes. For starters, we had a VAN donated to us through Fix it Forward in Moorhead!!!!! Isn't that incredible!? We plan on using it to be able to take all of our animals to vet appointments and spay/neuter  appointments as well. We signed up and are now a part of Petco Love Lost Program and there is a link to our page there on the "Contact Us" tab of our website. We updated our website as well. Both myself and our amazing volunteer Adriane, have been attending numerous webinars and figuring out ways on how we can serve you better and our Smiley's Rescues Community.

A lot of our time in the month of August was spent working on the build of the rescue and getting materials and supplies ordered for the upcoming cats and kittens we have taken in.

The Kittens Have Landed!

We now have 12 kittens (and counting) and 1 adult cat that will be ready for adoption by mid-September and early October. The kittens we have now come from a few different litters. Luna, Pumpkin, and Gizmo are all siblings from a local farm that showed up at the farmhouse! Cedar and Bear are cats we took in to help out Scruffy Tails in Crookston, MN. TJ, Gretta, Piper, and Ella are 4 tiny kittens available for adoption at the end of October, once they are weaned we will spay their mom and return her back to farm where she is most comfortable. Jack (o-lantern) and Hal(loween) are also from the same farm. We spayed their mom and grandma and returned them back to the farm as well!

We had 2 kittens that were pre-selected by individuals who reached out to us ahead of time and that are adopted or adoption pending until ready: Oswald and Fang (brothers of Jack and Hal).

In the same week as taking in all these kittens, we also assisted in the spay and neuter of 4 other cats/kittens locally and the total of 3 of the cats from the farm!

You can find more information about all our available animals here.

Rescue Building up and Running!

Thanks to some long days by our hard-working builder Jordan, the shelter building opened for animals on Aug 21st. This is the day we got our first batch of kittens and assisted in the spay/neuter of an entire farm located in Minnesota. Jordan worked extremely hard and we would love for you to come check it out! Check out a tour of the building on our YouTube channel.

Upcoming Needs at the Rescue

In September all the kittens will be getting spayed/neutered at Minn-kota PAAWS. We are so grateful for this AMAZING organization that provides lower-cost spay/neutering. If you don't know anything about them, please take a few minutes and look at their website. We are so lucky to have them in our area!

We of course always need supplies for the animals in our care in our foster homes. Generous donations have provided all the supplies and care the animals have needed for the month of August. If you would like to contribute to food, litter, or other supplies that we will use through the rest of 2022 please click here.

YOU Make All Of This Possible!! THANK YOU!!!!!!

Thank you for reading and check back in as we send these newsletter’s monthly to keep you updated on all the growth that we are doing to better serve the animals in our area! Please remember that 100% of the proceeds go directly to the animals and their supplies. Please forward this to anyone you feel that would enjoy it, and let us know if there is anyone you know that would like to be added to our monthly newsletter list.
