Iowa State Fair & the start of a new school year...plus a little bit more!

The Iowa State Fair was a blast! Exhausting...really, really exhausting but fun. Sydney showed 3 species this year, pigs and her goat in 4-H and her heifer in the open show. Jackson couldn't show in 4-H at the state fair, so he just took June to the open show. Sydney was there for all things social. Jackson was there for the stuff, the slides, snakes, shows, & all the sites.

Mom & Dad drove & shuffled & cleaned & packed & barely slept. It was worth it. Our fair hit multiple records of people & this year was the most attended. I can absolutely vouch for that because trying to get from one thing to another was an absolute nightmare. But at the end of the day, it was so nice seeing all the people from all over the state and the country to come to one place. Truly, nothing compared.

We spent the next day at home. The kids were practically sloths just doing the bare minimum of their chores. I did loads, upon loads of laundry. And... I was preparing for the next day..my new job. Late May, I accepted the position as the high school agriculture teacher & FFA Advisor. Yes, I know what you are probably thinking...is she crazy? And the answer is yes.

To be honest, it was not something I was seeking out, and I really didn't want to do it. I like the ability to just come and go and do whatever I want, always. LOL. But, Wade reminded me of a few things... 1. I did go to school & receive my Master's Degree in Agricultural Education. And 2. Sydney will be be in high school in just one more school year. So, I agreed. I now have 1 full week under my belt with students and I am currently very happy with how the week went. I won't lie, I was terrified. It has been so long since I have been around high school students in mass quantities. I will report back next month, and let you know how it goes! Fingers crossed it continues this way.

And if you are wondering, yes. The kids are still dual-enrolled. Somehow, they stars aligned & I was able to get into the middle school for an 8th grade agriculture class. Both kids will be at the middle school when I am there. Kids stay home, do chores, school work and take care of the dogs. They have lunch, Wade brings them to school and Sydney is in ag class with me, while Jackson goes to his specials each day.

We have one more thing, kinda a big deal. Wade started a new job too. Yep! Why not throw it all into one month? LOL. On August 30th Wade started with Maschoffs. He will be doing the same thing now, just for a different company.

With all that is going on in our lives, we are quickly reminded how fast things change. How times seems to tick by and its only up to us to make the most out of each day. As we head into a season of new birth with calves, and hopefully a few litters or late fall/early winter puppies we are so thankful. We are thankful for each other, our family, our health, and our ability to work hard to get everything done.

We are also thankful for those who support us, whether it is bringing home your next family member, buying beef or pork, or sharing & commenting on our social media post. Thank you.

Here to new beginnings & new life here at Stremsterfers.

Thanks for tagging along,

Fall Calving has started!

Fall is my favorite time of year...for some many reasons. Those chilly mornings make for great runs & nothing beats sitting around a campfire shooting the breeze with friends. It also brings fall calving for us. We were pleasantly surprised with a AI heifer calf was born yesterday... 2 weeks early. She is doing well & we are keeping a close eye on here.

What I am Reading & Watching

This thriller/mystery was intense. Trigger warning, it does involved a missing child. I didn't know it until I was 35% into it, then I was hooked. This was definitively not something I liked to listen to on my early morning walks. It made me walk a little faster. Give it a listen!

We haven't watched this yet, but it is on my to watch list. Jackson has been learning about volcanoes and somehow this popped into my Amazon Prime list. Go figure. Pierce was my favorite James Bond, and I look forward to this movie.

Have you seen it?

A huge purchase!

I have put this off for so long...buying a new bed. They are so expensive & what if they are terrible?!?!? Well, when we were in Tulsa for a week, I actually slept amazingly on the bed in the Air BNB. So, I sent them a message and asked what bed it was. I am praying I ordered the same one, I will report back!

Armless Archer Takes Gold in Paris...he is from Fairfield!

Matt Stutzman took home the Gold in the Paralympics this past weekend. He is a pretty cool guy, it is also cool to see him driving around town, knowing he will have an Olympic medal hanging in his house.

Tick Season...When does it end?

Depending on your state, your may or may not have a really long flea & tick season. I get asked on a regular basis, like at least once every single day what my flea & tick recommendation is...and honestly I struggle to answer. Why? Because everyone will not agree with it.

I have been yelled at & bullied about my choices in terms of flea & tick medications. Yes, I am serious. My response to those, there are two-three people in this world that I never question. 1. My husband & Dr. Tara (I put them in the same one because all I ever need to know id about dogs LOL) and 2. My dad.

About 3 years ago, I had an in-depth conversation with our vet, Dr. Tara who is always our friend about flea & tick medications. (I would also like to add that every single person that works in that office, I whole-heartedly trust every single animal we have with them all, they are my saving grace. )

One thing she did tell me that is regardless of what is out on the market & what you hear, sometimes we just have to tune it all out and look at the data. She raises goldens herself & used this specific product, so I was able to sleep at night knowing that she believed & gave the product to her dogs with certainty.

Like with everything everything, do your own research. Try to be unbiased & see what good it can do for you & your furry friend. Regardless of what product I do use, I do not like to give it year round, 12 months straight. I do know from human experience that if a medication is given on a regular basis...you develop a resistance to it. Jackson had multiple ear infections as a baby/toddler and the antibiotic he was prescribed over & over again stopped working....we had to go to a stronger one.

So, do you research & you & your vet can come up with a plan for you & your furry friend.

Monat Pet

When we send puppies home, we send a sample of our favorite pet shampoo from Monat. I signed up to be a Market Partner 5 years ago when they launched and believe in all their products 100%

I used their haircare and skincare line. So does Sydney and Jackson. Wade still uses Melaleuca...it's about the only thing that gets piggy smells out, LOL!

If you are interested in getting some or the spray, here is a link.
