Thank you for your loyal support of our small farm in 2022! We look forward to another growing season and providing you and your family with great tasting, high quality food!
2022 certainly had its moments of joy and success but also brought new challenges for our farm. The main ones that come to mind are the hatchery we have been using for a while now will be phasing out of production over the next couple of years and of course H&M Meats closing, leaving us without the option to sell retail cuts. Finding new butchers to process our animals has also been a challenge as there is such great demand in our region for their services. We truly appreciate your understanding and patience with us as we navigated these challenges with bumps along the way.
On that same note, we are also thankful for the feedback we have received from our customers throughout the year. Please keep it coming, especially with the change in butchers! Your feedback is the best and fastest way for us to improve what we do and continue to bring you better food and service!
The crazy fog we have had the last few days has made for beautiful frost on everything!
One of the successes of 2022 was that for the first time we where able to offer pasture raised chicken and turkey to our customers. We had been raising our own pastured poultry for years and have always enjoyed the good flavour of birds raised outside on green grass. Thanks to some recent changes in legislation we were finally able to share these delicious birds with you!
Another success was the creation of our website, finally turning our farm into a real, legitimate business! You know its real when you can find it on Google!
Finally one more success (and joy for Norwin) was that we were able to upgrade some of our equipment. We sold some of our old, worn out machines and upgraded to slightly newer, less worn out ones. The hope is that this will make our hay making faster, with less break downs. Of course that might just be wishful thinking...
Looking ahead to 2023 we will once again be hosting one or two farm tours throughout the summer. Keep an eye out for those dates to be announced sometime in the spring. We are also planning to expand our layer flock this year, first to make up for the losses from a recent dog incident, and then to be able to provide eggs to some of the people on our wait list. We would also like to see the pastured poultry enterprise grow, should we have enough interest in great tasting chicken and turkey!
Another thing you will see is some changes to how we market our products. This year we will only raise as many animals as we have pre-orders for. That way we are not left with animals we can't sell, having to feed them for longer than necessary. In previous years, any extra animals we had would end up in our freezers to sell as retail cuts throughout the year. With retail cuts no longer being an option (at least for the time being) we want to make sure we can sell what we produce. Stay tuned for more on pre-ordering in the next couple of months.
We wish you all the best for the coming year and look forward to interacting with you throughout 2023!
