Indigenous Representation in Fashion Industry

Activism Has Many Expressions

"From tradition to runway, Indigenous cultures are continually shifting, responding to the land and modern environment; some fashions reflect this and may challenge the viewer’s notion of “Indian style,” while other designers use fashion as a means for social activism." (swaianativefashion.org/)

At Indigenous Lifeways, it is our priority to ensure indigenous representation in all media forms. Executive Director, Krystal Curley was invited to 1st North American Native Fashion Week along with Actor/Model Wambli Eagleman. We had the chance to share the Social Justice Multimedia Toolkit Producer, Jhane Myers & Actor, Zahn McClarnon. They are both featured in the toolkit!

Most recently, Wambli and ILW collaborated on a photoshoot in Santa Fe highlighting Designer Lindsey Thornburg's Coat (photo above).
