SeaPerch Build Workshop Looking for an exciting opportunity to learn to build and operate underwater ROVs? The Seaperch team is organizing a build workshop for educators this coming October. Annual LASTEM Summit: The Annual LASTEM Summit will bring together K-12 educators, higher education professionals, and STEM experts to the Lafayette Cajundome for a dynamic event focused on science and math education. Attendees will enjoy STEM presentations, teacher workshops, robotics, and Esports demonstrations, as well as networking opportunities with educational outreach organizations. Keynote speaker Captain Barrington Irving, founder of Flying Classroom, will share his experiences in advancing STEM education nationwide. NASA TechRise Student Challenge: NASA invites U.S. middle and high school students to join the fourth NASA TechRise Student Challenge. Students in grades 6-12 from public, private, or charter schools, including those in U.S. territories, are encouraged to submit experiment ideas to be launched on a high-altitude balloon. Under educator guidance, teams will design payloads and conduct suborbital tests, enhancing their skills in space exploration, Earth observation, coding, electronics, and data analysis. NASA will select 60 teams to build their experiments, providing each with $1,500, a flight box, and a spot on a NASA balloon flight. Winners will also receive technical support from Future Engineers advisors to help develop their projects. No prior experience is needed to participate in this educational and inspiring challenge! LATM Outstanding Mathematics Teacher Awards Extended Deadline The Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics (LATM) annually honors outstanding mathematics teachers at elementary (K-4), middle (5-8), and high school (9-12) levels. A new teacher in their first three years may also be honored, based on a review by a panel of Louisiana educators. Awardees will be celebrated at the 2024 LATM Conference in Baton Rouge on October 21-22, 2024, where they will receive a plaque, a cash award, and a one-year NCTM membership to further their professional development.
