PLEASE make sure you're loading this entire edition of The Herald! Depending on your device, The Herald may be getting "clipped" and not fully loading. The very last things you should see are the P.O. Box address and "Visit the Website" link at the bottom. If you're not seeing this, there are two things you can try. At the very top of the Herald, click on the option to View in a Browser. If that doesn't work, look for "View Entire Message" where it looks to be the end/bottom of The Herald. You should be able to click and load the rest of The Herald. Hopefully this helps some of our members, who haven't been able to hear about all of the awesome things that the Matlacha Hookers have going on!

Appreciation From the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce

Paint the Poles on Pine Island

We are excited to announce that the Matlacha Hookers have been approved to paint five electric poles at various locations on Pine Island! Two poles, located at Capt'n Con's and Island Acres, have been painted and two are primed and ready to be painted.  Five designs were approved: hooks (pole at Capt'n Con's), paddle boards (pole at Island Acres), dolphin, American flag, and bright dots/bobbers. Matlacha Hookers membership is not a requirement to be a Pole Painter, as this is also a community project and we welcome everyone with a paintbrush!!  So if you want to participate in the painting please contact Donna Trusik 314-560-5074.

Thank you .....Jo Marttila, Kimmy Rasmussen, Shirley Noble and Lorie Tidwell for their awesome work.

Fort Myers River District Alliance Art Walk ~ Update

The Friday night Fort Myers River District Allicance Art Walk was not one for the books.  After the hugely successful Meat Raffle, School Supply Drive, and Stuff the Trailer, we were hoping to continue the profitable roll of Matlacha Hookers fundraisers.  Hiccup!  We arrived at our Art Walk site, set up our Matlacha Hookers merchandise and coolers, iced the beverages, and were ready to Rock 'n Roll!  Then... down the street blew two vendor tents along with drizzling rain.  Since we Hookers are known for our endless tenacity and optimism, we tarped the merchandise and pushed stuff under the tent to keep it dry.  Sadly, both the rain and wind intensified and the Art Walk folks called it a night.  Our one and only sale was a $1 bottle of water...UGH. But all was not lost!  The soggy six of us (Linda Bohacek, Jill Filgut, Jeanelle Havlin, DJ Ruscik, Cindy Walton, and Lorie Tidwell) headed across the street to Cabos Cantina for Happy Hour margaritas and Mexican munchies.  We all enjoyed hanging out and sharing stories.  The experience was a great reminder of our common goal and Matlacha Hooker mission of making a positive difference in our community.

A special thanks to the Soggy 6, and also Tracy Chapple, Tammey Lynch, and Stacy Sims, who were intercepted while on their way to the Art Walk site for the second shift.

We still have the September 6 and October 4 River District Alliance Art Walks to redeem our efforts. We'll be seeking volunteers at the August 12 meeting. Thanks in advance for your support!

Saint James City Civic Association

3300 Fourth Avenue, Saint James City, FL

A huge thank you goes out to Anna Van Kirk, who is managing the children's area for Peace Day Pine Island on September 21. She has a couple of wonderful activities planned for the children to participate in and they will be able to take home their creations. She is asking for 2 shifts of volunteers, each with 2 volunteers. Both shifts are 2.5 hrs long. The area is shaded by trees and a shade sail. There is seating on picnic tables, so you may want to bring a chair. If you are interested, please sign up on the link. We are also looking for volunteers in other areas of the festival, and those sign ups can be found in the link as well. If you would like to contact us directly, Jennifer's cell is 239-443-0244 and email is sacredsoulsllc@gmail.com.

Thank you, Ronda Czarneke and Jennifer Bennett

Meat Raffle ~ WELL DONE!

The Meat Raffle was a HUGE success and a ton of fun. We raised $1,154 for our Hooked On Education Scholarship Fund.  It was a great haul for a 2-hour event with minimal pre-event and no post-event work. Thank you to all those who came out and supported the event, as well as our volunteers Lorie Tidwell, Tammey Lynch, Scottie Thomas, and Darcy Conner for all your help.  Burnt Store Tavern loves supporting the Matlacha Hookers and has invited us back to host another Meat Raffle on January 25, 2025, so mark your calendars!
