The bottles selected for this tasting include the following:
Old Elk Medianoche (4.3)
Old Elk Medianoche is our first, but certainly not last release in partnership with Old Elk Distillery in Fort Collins. Old Elk's flagship bourbon utilizes a distinct mash bill featuring 34% malted barley, 15% rye, and 51% corn, which is 5-7 times the amount of malted barley typically used in bourbon, making their barrels a perfect match for Medianoche. After nearly 23 months in freshly emptied Old Elk 4-5 year-old straight bourbon barrels, these unique casks imparted notes of sticky caramel, maple almond granola, dark cocoa powder, clove spice, anise, and chocolate-covered espresso beans.
OWA Medianoche (4.4)
When we finally got our hands on freshly emptied 6-8 year-old Weller wheated bourbon barrels, which were admittedly bucket-list barrels for us given our love of OWA, we took the opportunity to craft a new Medianoche recipe specifically for these iconic casks. Leaning into the distinctly soft mouthfeel and unique flavors imparted by the wheated mash used in Old Weller Antique, we incorporated four different wheat malts to make up 35% of the mash bill for this wheated batch of Medianoche. After aging this intentionally redesigned batch of Medianoche in OWA barrels for over 22 months, the resulting blend expresses notes of vanilla beans, maple candies, dark chocolate almond bark, salted caramels, honey dates and dried dark cherries.
Triple Barrel Medianoche 1910 (4.17)
Triple Barrel 1910 Medianoche is the culmination of more than 36 months of curating, blending, and anticipation. In April of 2019, we filled Old Forester 1910 barrels with our traditional Medianoche base and after 12 months of rest, we moved them along and into a second set of 1910 barrels. Once more, after yet another 365 days, we transferred the 2-year-old Medianoche into a third set of 1910 barrels, for their final rest of, you guessed it, 12 months. So after three-plus years of aging in three different sets of Old Forester 1910 barrels, we are proud to finally present Triple Barrel 1910 Medianoche. Notes of freshly baked cake, sweet pecan, intense vanilla, oak, and burnt caramel. Trust us, the wait was well worth it.
Medianoche Antique SAZ (4.37)
Medianoche Antique: SAZ marks the launch of a brand new Medianoche series designed to showcase some of the rarest and most sought-after casks we have ever procured. These casks, which were selected as part of the 2019 BTAC releases, were first used to age the famed Sazerac Rye Whiskey for 18+ years before they were emptied and immediately filled with Rye Medianoche.
2021 Mediancoche Reserve (4.72)
After working out some of the kinks from the first edition, this year's Medianoche Reserve has been fine-tuned to showcase the perfect marriage of barrel-aging, adjuncts, and most importantly...quality. The result is one of our finest barrel-aged expressions to date.
Medianoche Reserve is a blend of Imperial Stouts aged in 8-9 year Bourbon barrels for 21 months, then aged with toasted coconut flakes, raw coconut chips, Ugandan vanilla beans, Belizean roasted cacao nibs from Cultura Craft Chocolate, and Ghanan roasted cacao nibs and husks from Nuance Chocolate, each selected to complement the natural flavors imparted by the barrels.
2022 Medianoche Reserve (4.56)
The 2022 release of Medianoche Reserve started as a blend of imperial stouts aged for 21-30 months in freshly emptied 19 year Elijah Craig bourbon, 15 year Sazerac rye whiskey, 13 year William Heavenhill bourbon and 10 year Old Forester Birthday Bourbon barrels. After aging, the blend was conditioned with toasted coconut, raw coconut, vanilla beans, roasted cacao nibs and husks, each selected to complement the natural flavors imparted by the barrels.
Starry Noche B2 (4.55)
Starry Noche started as a carefully selected blend of Medianoche batches aged for 18-22 months in freshly emptied 7-12 year-old bourbon barrels. After nearly two years in barrels, the blend was conditioned on more than 3 lbs/gallon of toasted coconut flakes and raw coconut chips, then finished with toasted hazelnut.
Coconut Medianoche (4.48)
Coconut Medianoche starts with a carefully selected blend of Medianoche batches aged for 21 months in 6-12 year Heaven Hill® bourbon barrels. After barrel aging, the beer was conditioned on more than 3 lbs per gallon of toasted coconut flakes and raw coconut chips, with the sweet coconut providing a perfect complement to the dark chocolate, brownie batter, and brown sugar notes contributed by the barrels.
Coconut Coffee Medianoche (4.38)
Coconut Coffee Medianoche starts with a carefully selected blend of Medianoche batches aged for 18-21 months in 7-14 year bourbon barrels. After barrel-aging, the beer was conditioned on more than 3 lbs per gallon of toasted coconut flakes and raw coconut chips, then finished with over 150 lbs of medium roast Peruvian coffee from our friends at Mostra Coffee. Mostra sourced a special lot of Peru Finca Matapalo coffee specially for this project, which was honey processed and distinguished as a 2019 Cup of Excellence entry. Lending notes of milk chocolate and almond, the coffee perfectly complements the rich sweetness imparted by the raw and toasted coconut, all underscored by the complex notes of vanilla, toffee and baker’s chocolate contributed by the barrels.
Little Man Salted Oreo Medianoche (4.23)
Little Man Salted Oreo Medianoche is our latest collaborative effort with our good friends at Little Man Ice Cream – but with a twist! To follow up on the success of the original release, Little Man Salted Oreo Stout, we decided to give our flagship barrel-aged stout the same Salted Oreo treatment. We started with a blend selected from batches of Medianoche aged for 22-36 months in freshly emptied Blanton's 15-year and seven-year bourbon, Thomas H. Handy six-year rye, Sazerac 15-year rye, Weller six-year wheated bourbon, and New Riff four-year bourbon barrels. After barrel aging, the beer was finished with Oreos, sea salt, and Madagascan vanilla beans.
This Ex-BEER-ience will begin at 6pm on Wednesday November 30, 2022 and will include pizza for the participants.
Ticket Holders are allowed to bring Medianoche variants to share.
