Ashoka University’s Economics Department ranked first in India by RePEc

The Economics Department of the University has been ranked first out of 239 well-acclaimed Universities, based on the research output, publications and number of citations in September 2020. 

 

The Economics Department has been ranked at number 1 (#1 of 239 institutions) in India, and in the top 12.5% in Asia (at #31 of 1539 institutions) in September 2020, according to the international database RePEc, which covers 8198 institutions and 60355 registered authors worldwide.  Read more...

COVID-19 has disrupted our lives in ways that we never could imagine. In this unprecedented time, repercussions of the pandemic on people's mental health have been catastrophic. Greater investment is required in mental health around the world. The theme for World Mental Health Day 2020 was 'Mental Health for All: Greater Investment – Greater Access'. This year's theme focussed on the fact that mental health is a human right and it's about time, it is made available to all.

CSIP | Amended FCRA Law's Impact on India's Social Sector: Ashoka Centre Provides Context, Data

 

Recent amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), effective Sept. 29, have created a surge in demand for context and data from the Centre for Social Impact and Philanthropy (CSIP). Forbes India, LiveMint, and other news media cited CSIP's 2019 research on foreign philanthropic flows to India's NGOs; the centre subsequently released an updated analysis of Estimating Philanthropic Capital in India: FCRA Funding, incorporating datasets from 2017-2019.

The National Social Policy Conversations Seek Ashoka Centre's Expertise

 

CSIP is among the organisations named to the new SEBI Technical Committee on the Social Stock Exchange (SSE), helping develop a framework for onboarding nonprofit organisations and for-profit enterprises as well as prescribing requirements for this proposed social impact funding mechanism. The 17-member group includes representatives from GuideStar India, Omidyar Network India, ICAI, and more. CSIP is also among the organisations appointed to the NITI Aayog Sub Group on Mapping, Capacity Building and Regulation of the Voluntary Sector, which held its first meeting on October 14.

CSIP Research Fellowship Prepares for First Cohort 

 

CSIP received more than 350 applications for its first annual CSIP Research Fellowship, a 9-month opportunity to study Indian philanthropy and giving trends, with proposed focus areas ranging from Dalit rights to LGBTQ issues to climate change. Shortlisted candidates have been contacted and accepted proposals will be announced this month. To learn more, visit here.

World Mental Health Day

ACWB and The Hindu came together on World Mental Health Day, 2020. With online classes, separation from friends, and placement worries in a spiraling economy, young adults today face a whole new set of challenges. In a Live session with Arvinder J Singh, Director, Ashoka Centre for Well-Being (@acwb_ashoka), there was a discussion on the importance of mental health in the 15-25 age group.
