Brexit: Where to Now for Global Trade The UK sets its tariff policy for international trade, it faces a series of challenges from World Trade Organisation Members. Generally, the UK proposed a less protectionist trade regime, with lower trade barriers, which will be good news for many more competitive countries to access the UK, while it will push existing exporters from less competitive developing countries out. Reactions and Outlook to COVID-19 in AfricaThe results of the second joint UNECA-IEC survey on COVID-19 Impact on Business and Trade in Africa have just been published. The results of the survey show that the top three challenges faced by companies are: a) reduced opportunities to meet new customers; b) drop in demand, and; c) lack of cash flow. Revenues are expected to drop by 18% in 2020, compared to 2019. Read more |

Data Sources and Collection on COVID-19: Measuring Impact Effectively International Economics is assisting the World Bank and United Nations in the launching of an online platform for sharing research, data, and other resources on the impact of COVID-19 on Mauritius. A first webinar was organised on Wednesday 30 September 2020. Interventions from the World Bank, the United Nations Resident Coordinator's office, University of Mauritius, the Economic Commission of Africa of the United Nations, Statistics Mauritius, National Productivity and Competitiveness Council, United Nations Development Programme, and Middlesex University gave insights into the data being collected to assess the impact of COVID-19 in Mauritius.
