Coffee value chain actors in Kakumiro gain valuable knowledge on the National Coffee Act, 2021 at a sensitization engagement organized by the Uganda Coffee Development Authority. This sensitisation on the Coffee Act in Kakumiro and the rest of Uganda will boost the coffee value chain, improving livelihoods and promoting coffee production, productivity and consumption. In Uganda, Mukene is a widely available but mostly undesirable source of fish within the country. While more popular fish, such as tilapia are often used as exports, Mukene has a reputation as being mainly animal feed. One of the aims of the NutriFish project is to improve the production and processing of Mukene and improve its reputation as a healthy and nutrition-rich fish deserving of more popular consumption. Improving the Mukene industry in Uganda will contribute to increased food and nutrition security in the region. One of the big accomplishments of the project has been the adoption of solar tent dryers, which have allowed for cleaner, and more efficient drying of Mukene, that also triples the fish’s shelf life. This innovation has seen processors more than double their incomes. The process has also helped increase the overall food processing quality, improving Mukene acceptability and distribution. The processing changes have also helped the livelihoods of Ugandan fishing communities as the demand and market for Mukene grows, with consumption increasing by 30% so far. I was lining up for ice cream at Clementine's, a well-loved local ice cream parlor here in St. Louis and stumbled upon Askinosie Chocolate, a homegrown Missouri #chocolate brand with bars made from sustainably and directly-sourced cocoa from the #Philippines and other countries. By directly sourcing cocoa and paying farmers right, Askinosie helps bring prosperity within the reach of rural and farming communities in the Philippines, Ecuador, and Tanzania. In their transparency report, Askinosie states a sweet nugget of truth: "Without them (farmers) we are nothing." #sustainabledevelopmentgoals this brand directly contributes to: #SDG1 (no poverty), #SDG2 (zero hunger), #SDG8 (decent work and economic growth), #SDG10 (reducing inequalities), #SDG11 (sustainable cities and communities), #SDG15 (life on land), #SDG17 (partnerships for the goals). This project will serve as an educational hub providing modern agricultural training to local farming communities, enhancing the country's food supply and generating employment opportunities. The project is anticipated to directly employ around 3,000 individuals, with an additional 8,000 benefiting indirectly. Our commitment to addressing global challenges, particularly in the realm of #foodsecurity, remains top priority. Rwanda Good Food for cities (GF4Cs)Project. is a 5-years funded by Belgium Directorate-General for development Cooperation & Humanitarian Aid (DGD) through Rikolto SON and implemented by Kilimo Trust-Rwanda in partnership with Rwanda Consumer's Rights Protection Organization to support cities and countries that want to make health and affordable food available for urban citizens. #GOAL ; #Rwanda #GF4CS Project is to contribute to 20% increase in incomes and job creation for 2,000 smallholder producers of heath , sustainable, and nutritious (HSN) foods in #RubavuDistrict. #GF4CS's main objective is to establish 4 operational commercial production enterprises and expand structured trade of 5000 MT (1000MT annually) of healthy , sustainable, and nutritious foods (vegetables) in response to specific market demand. #Rwanda #GF4Cs focuses on professionalization of smallholder farmers in @RubavuDistrict, to increase vegetable production , Postharvest handling , marketing , and market access with emphasis on regenerative agriculture practices.
