Hello all you joyous subscribers and welcome to my January newsletter. The greeting above is used to wish prosperity for Chinese New Year which we celebrated on 22nd January. I was lucky enough to visit my sister in Malaysia in the run up and got to see some of the amazing decorations welcoming in the Year of the Rabbit. |

This was the first time I'd visited Malaysia since starting to sew, and I knew there would be some unique fabrics there. I spent hours in the Jakel Mall, an entire mall dedicated to fabrics. |

I am two weeks into an 8 week online course with Lynda Maynard to sew up the Sienna Maker Jacket by Closet Core Patterns. I made a toile in advance of the course, since it is more about the construction than the fitting, although Lynda does give some pointers on the latter. My blog post describes my fitting process, in particular how I removed the front neckline gaping with a simple technique by Alexandra Morgan of In-House Patterns. |

This project is advanced for my skill level but I'm taking it one seam at a time, and absolutely loving learning from a pro on my first jacket. More on my progress next month. |
