Hello!

I’ve got lots of news and some of it is time sensitive so I decided to get in touch sooner than usual. Here’s the overview: Aidan Martin, the (possible) tattoo anthology, Deborah Price and a video I made which was somewhat of me overcoming video fear as the last time I posted a video on Twitter some guy from LA decided I was fair game for a video critique (not exactly nice), drawing the attention of over 500 people. Which I didn’t really mind (aside from hearing my hair looked horrible) because 500+ people found out about Guts Publishing! But still.

At any rate, here’s the news. Last Sunday Aidan Martin (Euphoric Recall) announced this on Instagram:

“Really delighted I can now publicly announce my TV show ‘Scotland's Stories: Let's Talk About Trauma’ will air on STV @wearestv1 next Friday night at 7pm!

This is the project I have been working on. This is why I’ve been spotted in various places like Ladywell with a film crew! Ha

I signed my first ever ‘TV Presenter’ contract to do this show. It is partly about my life and partly me interviewing some incredible organisations who are trying to support children and young people through trauma in Scotland.

I can’t tell you how proud I am of this project. I don’t want to give too much away. I want you to tune in and enjoy it. The program is linked to STV’s Children’s Appeal hosted by Lorraine Kelly. I got to work with the most amazing crew and I will tell all about them in the coming days.”

Well done Aidan!

You can watch the show on the STV Player website. Even if you don’t live in Scotland, you can register and just use a Scottish postcode. Probably not something I’d say on social media, but hey, it’s Aidan and we must watch!

It’s on at 7pm (GMT) on Friday 4 November. Here's the link: https://player.stv.tv/tvguide/stv

So, about that video I made. I’ve decided to share it with you in this email for two reasons. First, just to be honest, I’m promoting my Pitch Your Book course and also because it’s ridiculous for me to not post videos because of that LA know-it-all who decided to rake me over the coals.

So, here it is. Please be nice :) Also I still have a few spots open for the November course that runs from the 8th to 29th. I’d be happy to chat with you if you’d like book a spot. Here's the link to our Coaching page: gutspublishing.com/publishing-coach

Also, my last client, Erin Hosfield (the tattooist), wrote a wonderful testimonial which was really touching:

Once I completed my first novel I was overwhelmed when it came to what I’d need to do to publish. After a few attempts at submitting I realized I was way in over my head, and in need of guidance. I decided to embark on the Pitch Your Book coaching option with Julianne, and feel so lucky to have found her.

For The Peanut Factory news - we have a wonderful new 5-star review posted by Jude C which I’m delighted to share with you:

Great read - so good I bought it in book form and for kindle

28 October 2022

This book is a real opportunity to relive a life long gone from the 1980s. I moved to London in 1982 and while I didn't live in squats I did live in council flats which were considered suitable only to letting to students - not for families or older people. The first full-time job I got was also with the GLC's ILEA. The music, the food, pubs, going up west, all resonated highly with me. A well-written memoir - I'd like to know more.

And – FINALLY – I’ve got news about the tattoo anthology. We’re going to do it!! Yeah, it’s exciting. I announced it on social media on Tuesday and the submissions are already coming in. Here’s what we’re looking for: fiction, nonfiction and poetry on the theme of tattoos. One tattoo or many tattoos or any angle you’d like to take. As long as it’s the main theme. We’ll be open for submissions until 1 February 2023, but please send sooner rather than later (if you can) as I’ll start reviewing in December (around Christmas).

Here's the link to our submissions page: gutspublishing.com/submissions

Many thanks to Liam Hogan (our 3x anthology contributor) who first suggested the theme and to my client Erin Hosfield for the photo that inspired it.

As well, thank you to Brianna Tucker (on Unsplash) for the promo image photo.

I can barely wait to start reading your stories and poems!

xx Julianne
