CONSTRUCTION Two building projects went forward in October. Connor Morinini and Site Manager Shane Lovell sheathe the roof of a Tuffshed Barn to house the CoolBot insulated Produce Cooler that will go inside. Connor volunteered to do the work for his Cal Poly Senior Project in Construction Management. Shane clears ground under the newly refurbished hoophouse to prepare for Winter planting. |

FARM-TO-SCHOOL PRODUCE SALES PROGRAM |
City Farm's collaborative pilot project with the SLCUSD Food Service continues to develop. According to a longer term agreement, they purchase $200 worth of produce wholesale from us every month. In October, our harvest went over that by $370 which we included as a donation. |

BIOREACTOR AND REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE |
Regenerative Agriculture is a worldwide movement among farmers and researchers for promoting soil health. It's been practiced at City Farm for over a year with no-till cultivation, crop rotation, cover-cropping and heavy application of compost. An experimental regenerative program championed by local authority, Tim Lasalle, is creation of compost high in fungal content that allows soil organisms (often referred referred to as "Biology") to enrich soil without additions. At a recent Cuesta College workshop on Regenerative Agriculture, Tim taught farmers to construct a Bioreactor like the one built at City Farm nine months ago. Shane helped lead the activity and brought along a batch of the product for participants to admire. |

Miracles occur every day in our subtenants' agricultural Waldorf-inspired Education program. Elementary-age students dig sweet potatoes they grew onsite and cook them up into soup. In a cob oven they built with our clay soil, straw and sand, they bake bread made with wheat they harvested. Follow them here. [photos courtesy of Shea St. John] |
