Monthly Teen Tool-TIPP
We've all been there- rapid heart rate, sweating, queasiness, muscle tension, dry mouth, disorientation. It is normal for teens and young adults to experience anxiety and stress in their every day lives. But- sometimes these feelings become frequent and overwhelming.
As a life coach for teens and young adults, I can teach you tools and strategies so you can learn to accept and skillfully tolerate and navigate these emotions?
One of these strategies is a Distress Tolerance Skill called- TIPP. TIPP is an acronym that stands for the following 4 steps- temperature, intense exercise, paced breathing and paired muscle relaxation. This technique enables you to regulate and ease the physical symptoms of anxiety and stress.
In some cases you may feel better even after doing the first step or two. This means that the technique is working for you. However, if you have the time you should do all the steps so that you will maximize the effect. Typically, all 4 steps take between 20 and 30 minutes to complete!
