Want to study in Denver but not sure where to live? Not a problem! Our homestay program matches international students with American families to live with during their studies. This is a great way to practice your English outside of the classroom and explore Denver more! Pictured is Josue and Eileen. Josue has been living with Eileen since January. Here's what he says about his homestay experience: "In my opinion, my homestay experience is having a positive impact in [the] way I speak English, I've heard some students say that they usually learn more when they are at home (with the host family) than at school, and part of the reason is because you get to spend a good amount of time with them. Furthermore, I couldn't have asked for anyone better, Eileen has been treating me like her own child since day one." Want to sign up for a homestay while studying in Denver? Welcome to our newest instructor, Carrie! We are happy to have her on board. In her own words: "Studying abroad in Italy sparked my passion for travel and learning about other cultures. Therefore, after earning my undergraduate degree and during my first corporate marketing job, I saved every cent and bought a one way ticket to Thailand which began a year and a half of backpacking around the world. Afterwards in 2009, I moved to Germany and continued teaching ESL. I loved the couple volunteer stints I had done in China during my travel, hence I was lucky to continue this rewarding career. I began lecturing at Stuttgart University, which led me to teach mainly within the higher education sector. After four years together with my husband, I moved to Shanghai, China where I exclusively taught at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics for four years. Then we relocated to Michigan and my instruction expanded from ESL to college composition classes for American students. I have continued teaching ESL here in Colorado at Red Rocks Community College and at Colorado School of English! I learned German fluently while living in Germany and Mandarin in China, therefore, I understand the challenges and rewards of learning other languages and can relate to my students not only in language learning but also in living in a different culture. I love nearly all outdoor activities, so Colorado is the perfect place to live, and spending time with my growing family - 2 kids (soon to be 3) and my husband. I also enjoy reading memoirs, doing yoga and cooking Asian food." | | |
