This is that wonderful time of year when Rebecca arrives on Thursday mornings with her arms filled with Farmers Market bounty. Fresh flowers on the table and fresh herbs on your plates, mid August is truly a time to celebrate our local producers and the hard work they put in to bring us so much gorgeous local, fruits and vegetables. Have you visited the Lunenburg Farmers Market? It runs year round every Thursday morning and it a great place to meet up with friends and neighbours and pick up your fresh ingredients for the week. We thank Hutton Family Farm and Rumtoph Farms for consistently allowing us to offer local produce to you! |

This is Lydia! Born and raised in Blockhouse, Lydia has returned for her second summer as a dishwasher here at Rebecca's. She enjoys camping and swimming, as well as playing rugby and basketball. She says she loves working with us because "the staff is sweet and easy to get along with and are very considerate of each other." Lydia would like to one day travel to Greece, and is planning a career as an orthodontist. When she was asked to show us or tell us something unique about herself Lydia promptly offered up a look at her thumbs. They look like toes! Thanks for all your hard work and dedication, Lydia, we will miss your big smile and cheerful spirit when you return to Parkview High in the Fall. |

Food News We take great care in offering gluten-free menu items to our customers. While a growing number of people follow a gluten-free diet for various non-allergy reasons, there are many who don't have a choice and must be very, very cautious when dining out. These people have something called Celiac disease. Celiac is a long-term autoimmune disorder that primarily affects the small intestine. Classic symptoms include a variety of nasty gastrointestinal problems, as well as vitamin and mineral malabsorption, loss of appetite and can cause failure to grow normally in children. This often begins between six months and two years of age. Non-classic symptoms are more common, especially in people older than two years. There may be mild or absent gastrointestinal symptoms, a wide number of symptoms involving any part of the body or no obvious symptoms. Celiac disease is often detected in childhood, but can develop at any age. When developing our seasonal menus, Chef Misty spends a great deal of time and care making sure that there are many items available that can be made gluten-free, or are gluten-free from the get go. Even some of the things you wouldn't normally expect to have an option for gluten-free- our famous daily fishcakes can almost always be made gluten-free by omitting the panko crust, and we also offer gluten-free buns for our burgers and a gluten-free crust option for our pizzas! |
