Deepening Impact: Learning & Collaboration |

Gratitude Railroad Ocean Health Panel. From left: Emma Leavy, Laura Francis, Daniela Fernandez, and Kortney Opshaug. September was a busy month of travel for Sea Forward, supporting partners and building new collaborations. Laura began her travels at 1440 Multiversity near San Jose, California at the annual meeting of Gratitude Railroad (a community driven impact investment firm). There she led an insightful conversation on ocean health with Daniela Fernandez of Sustainable Ocean Alliance (one of Sea Forward's past grantees) and Kortney Opshaug with Blue Ocean Gear. These two extraordinary women founders and entrepreneurs shared what drew them to their work, what challenges they now face, which innovations they are excited about, and how they find and connect with others in the community for mentorship and support. |

Laura on kayak tour of Maurepas Swamp. Laura then went to New Orleans to participate in the Marine Conservation Meeting of the Biodiversity Funders group, which included a kayak tour of the Maurepas Swamp. There were also sessions on nature-based solutions, climate resilience, fisheries and other blue economies as pathways for just and equitable conservation, plastics, offshore oil and gas, and unpacking the US Climate Ocean Action Plan. |

Finally, Laura traveled to Climate Week in New York City to meet with 1,000 Ocean Startups, an organization committed to backing at least 1,000 transformative ocean startups by 2030. Sea Forward is one of 37 coalition members, and we came together to create new connections, deepen collaboration, and learn about vital innovations that will create a sustainable blue economy. While there, Laura also visited the Billion Oyster Project, which restores reefs in New York Harbor through public education initiatives. |
