Water, water, everywhere

 

Pennsylvania oil and gas wells produced over 63.5 million barrels of water in 2020.

 

What happened to all of that water?

 

  • Reuse for operations accounted for over half.
  • Treatment at a processing facility accounted for another third.
  • Injection within disposal wells totaled ten percent.
  • Storage awaiting reuse or other processing was the majority of the remaining volumes.

Relationship between price & drilling

 

 

Robert Clarke posted a nice chart showing a comparison of horizontal oil rigs vs. WTI oil prices. As noted, 2021 rigs are running extremely low compared to the trend (Link in comments).

 

 

 

Working up in Appalachia, I had to plot the horizontal gas rigs vs. Henry Hub gas prices. The gas trend isn't as clear as the oil rigs, but 2021 year-to-date is still falling below the trend.

US Steel, Equinor team up to examine Appalachia's potential for hydrogen

Norwegian oil and gas producer Equinor ASA is teaming up with manufacturer U.S. Steel Corp. to explore converting Appalachia's natural gas to cleaner "blue hydrogen," the firms said June 29. Blue hydrogen uses steam methane reforming to make hydrogen and uses carbon capture and storage, or CCS, technologies to store the waste carbon, usually underground.

Ohio Oil and Gas Production Saw Steep Declines During Pandemic - Natural Gas Intelligence

Ohio's oil and natural gas production dropped last year as operators shut in volumes and curbed activity amid the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the Ohio Oil and Gas Association's (OOGA) annual Debrosse Memorial Report. Natural gas production fell by 10% year/year to 2.4 Tcf in 2020, according to estimates included in the report.

Hess Announces Oil Discovery at Whiptail, Offshore Guyana

NEW YORK--()--Hess Corporation (NYSE: HES) today announced a significant oil discovery on the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana at Whiptail. The Whiptail-1 well encountered 246 feet (75 meters) of net pay in high quality oil bearing sandstone reservoirs.

Suriname, the Next Offshore Oil Hot Spot?

Offshore drilling in Guyana, mainly by ExxonMobil, has in the past years unearthed more than 9 billion barrels of oil equivalent, making Guyana a place to be when it comes to deepwater exploration, and as of December 2019, production , with multiple FPSOs planned for deployment in the coming years.
