We are back!

As you are no doubt aware the Government have relaxed COVID restrictions slightly to allow non-contact outdoor sports to take place. This is great news as it means we can get back out on the water once again. There are still group and capacity restrictions so we have planned a gradual build up of activities over the next few weeks.

From today we will resume scheduled training courses, as well as our race training with the Club's Racing Academy (ARA). You will be contacted by email to confirm sessions that have been reconfirmed. Dinghy, Kayak and SUP hire will also be available for members from today.

Previous precautions will be in place at the Club, including temperature checks, wearing masks, social distancing when seated and non-members will be asked to use the Leavehomesafe App when entering or leaving the Club.

For the full schedule of courses visit our booking website.

New setup on Laser 1 dinghies

During each closure we have made use of the time for repair and maintenance of the over 70 dinghies at Middle Island. We are pleased to report that all the boats in our fleet are ready for use. On this occasion we also overhauled the Feva fleet and also made upgrades to the Laser 1 fleet. Below are some of the key changes we made on the Laser.

The downhaul is now permanently fixed to the boat. To rig you simply pass the dyneema (black line) through the tack eye on the sail, pull it back down and tie it off around the vang fitting. It can then be adjusted as normal through the deck cleat. No more hunting around for lost blocks!

We have also setup a fixed boom tie down for the clew with the outhaul. The friction is no more than if you tied it off normally but it will again prevent loss of any ropes.

We also have a simple loop tied in at the mast base and can be pulled over the vang. This is actually a class requirement as it stops the mast from coming out the boat should you capsize.

Interested in Laser sailing? We offer a two day introduction course. The next courses will be in April and May. More details and booking online here.

Dinghy Match Racing

Following the success of the club Match Racing Day last year a new training course will be run at ABC to promote this fun, tactical exciting format of racing. Attending these courses will definitely give you new insights on using Racing Rules to your advantage in Match Racing. Honing your sailing skills and match racing maneuvers

Details of the courses are as follows:

Theory Evening: 21 April (Wed) 7-9pm at ABC mainclub
Practical sessions: 24 & 25 April (Sat & Sun) 9am-5pm at Middle Island

Powerboat Courses

The two day RYA Powerboat Level 2 practical courses are run each month. Visit the booking page here.

If you are looking to gain your Hong Kong Licence (PVOCC) the Club also offers theory courses to prepare you for this. More details online here.

Aberdeen Racing Academy

We are looking forward to the teams getting back on the water this weekend. The team training will be staggered throughout the day to help with reduced gathering onshore and sailors should have already received more information from Daniel.

This Easter we will be running a race training camp for sailors who have already complete Junior Stage 4 and are interested in racing.

The three half day training camp will introduce sailors to the Optimist Racing dinghy so they can transfer the skills they have already learnt into this type of boat.

We will also start to cover some of the key racing rules and skills as well as some typical race training drills.

Spaces are limited. Book online here

If you want to learn more about the Aberdeen Racing Academy please check out the www.abcmiddleisland.com/ara-team

New Hire Rates

Revised charges for dinghy, kayak and SUP hire were introduced on 1st January 2021 and take affect from today. Rates for our older fleets (Pico and Laser 2000) remain unchanged. For more details visit the website here.

Closure for Chinese New Year

The Club will be closed on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th February.

No training or craft hire will be available on those days.
