MAY NEWSLETTER

Well it has been a strange season !  Due to this it has been a while since we had a newsletter as there has not been a lot to report.  So here is a quick update!

ONLINE VIA ZOOM

With social distancing being in place with COVID 19, our RUMs have been using technology to conduct training by using Zoom and having online sessions.  Great to see our umpires getting into this method of training.  Look out for information from Kimberley regarding the upcoming sessions.

COMING UP

With the slow easing of restrictions, Kimberley is hoping we will soon be able to get back to our training venue.  When we can return to our venue, training will be back to the normal twice a week. Keep an eye out for any updates from Kimberley.

RUM POSITION UPDATE

By now you would have seen the email from Jarrod advising he is stepping back from the RUM position he shared with Kimberley.   We must give our sincere thanks for the huge effort and work put into the role and a job well done.

We also thank Kimberley for being willing to continue with the great job she and Jarrod have already done!

FUNDRAISER FOR THE BIG KIDS! - 2019 SHIRAZ

THE DECISION MAKER

The Townsville Umpires Association would like to offer you an opportunity to purchase a quality McLaren Vale Shiraz for a very affordable price.

We have a limited number of these bottles left at $20 each, available for purchase as a memento of a unique 2020 season.

As this opportunity is restricted to only 192 bottles, please pre-order now for delivery in mid July.

Place your pre-order with Andrew Crook – andrewscrook@yahoo.com.au

Once Andrew has confirmed your order he will email the payment details to you.

These bottles retail at about $80 and they are selling fast so don't miss out! And if you want your name on the labeling so you have a souvenir of 2020, you had better sign up your membership (links below) to be included!!

Once again we are saying goodbye to one of our group.  Gerry Phipps is moving interstate back to Victoria.

He has very much enjoyed being part of our group and will miss our social night dinners!  He hopes once he is settled to get back into umpiring down there.

Gerry we wish you well in your next adventure in life. And of course you are welcome back any time you might be up this way again.

AFLTUA MEMBERSHIP

We are encouraging you all to join our association.  Membership is separate to the Sports TG registration you should have already completed.  There are lots of inclusions and benefits to becoming an AFLTUA member.  We offer three different types of membership - Senior (full), Junior and Social memberships - details can be found here.

The fees are on hold until further notice and will be reviewed dependent on how our season pans out.  Thank you to those who have already signed up. We currently have 15 members, 4 life members and 1 social member signed up and approved by the committee, so keep them coming in!

  • To become a member just fill out a membership form.
  • Forms can be completed electronically or printed off and filled in.
  • Juniors we do need you to use a printed form as we need your parent or guardian to sign it as well.
  • Life Members we do need you to complete a form.
  • Then just email or hand to the secretary (electronic will email automatically).
  • Memberships are required to be approved.
  • Payments can be made by direct debit or in cash at training once the fees have been revised.

Any queries don't hesitate to email, or speak to a committee member.

FROM THE COMMITTEE/RUMs

  • Bunnings Sausage Sizzles have been cancelled until further notice which has reduced our capacity to fundraise for this year.
  • The Association now has an ABN number which will make it easier for us to apply for grants and funding.
  • AFLQ have outlined a potential season but we still need to wait for state government restrictions to ease.
  • If restrictions ease we should see a return to our training venue soon.  Kimberley is hoping for July but keep an eye out for her emails for developments.
  • We will have a social night once we return to our training venue.
  • Uniforms - Our current uniforms can still be worn for this season.  We will also be selling uniforms very cheaply as long as stocks last.  Also looking at people being able to swap/sell second hand uniforms if they need bigger sizes etc.  More about this soon.
