INGREDIENTS IN ACTION
Aloo Gobi (Curried Cauliflower)
By: Co+op, welcome to the table

This popular aromatic North Indian curry is easy to make and delicious served with basmati rice, naan bread and a side of cucumber raita. The warming flavor of curry spices combined with the comforting textures of potato and cauliflower may have originated from Punjab's fertile land, but it has become a well-loved vegan dish throughout India. Savory, inexpensive, and filling, this vegetable curry is a staple in northern Indian households.

Aloo means potato and Gobi means cauliflower.

CUP O' JOE          by Joe Z.

Okay - I’m going to go out on a limb and share what I see as the greatest force powering our Co-ops.  This is a bit dangerous for me because when I have shared this in the past, my credibility as a serious business person comes into question.  Despite the fact that marketing people understand this force well and are always trying to harness it.

Well it’s not crystals so you can set your minds at ease.  Though especially in our early Co-ops, crystals and Co-ops were synonymous so I can see why you might think this.

And it’s not the computer revolution although Co-ops were earlier adopters as it enabled them to manage their micro-businesses much more efficiently and helped narrow the gap between what the big companies can do.

Please don’t roll your eyes and think “demented old hippy” (although I’m proud of my hippy roots and wear my tie-dye shirts proudly).  Here it is: the incredible force that powers Co-ops is… love.

PRODUCE HIGHLIGHTS

Winter is citrus season and we have almost too many varieties to SQUEEZE into the cooler!

We've got cara cara oranges, satsuma mandarins, finger limes, sweet limes, Buddha's hand citron, and of course our regular selection of navel oranges, grapefruit, lemons, and limes! We've also rearranged the produce section quite a bit in order to make room for our new cooler! We're very excited about the new feng shui and hope you are too!

Winter is also cold & flu season, and citrus fruit is a known immune system booster. One orange provides your body with over 100% of the daily minimum requirement of Vitamin C.  Citrus also offers good amounts of other vitamins and minerals that your body needs to function properly, including B vitamins, copper, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. Citrus has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties as well. Low in calories, citrus is a excellent source of soluble fiber, improving digestion and aiding in weight loss. Simply put, EAT YOUR CITRUS to stay healthy this winter!

GREETINGS FROM THE BOARD

We at DNF hope that this decade has been eclipsed with fond memories and an exciting future for all. While many of us are probably thinking to ourselves “how did this decade fly by so quickly?,” the DNF board is thinking “another decade down and many more to go!” As the Co-op anticipates the winter trend of slowing sales, we are counting on our beloved Member-Owners to keep your neighborly Co-op in mind by voting with your dollar.

As 2020 presents itself with an ever-important presidential election, the Co-op leadership team encourages you to not only exercise your precious right to vote with your ballot, but also exercise your precious right as a consumer to support ethical businesses and their products by voting with your dollar! Did you know that as a consumer, you have the power to change the food industry, strengthen local economies, and support sustainable businesses by using your wallet as a consumer weapon? (Agro)Businesses respond to demand, and you have the power to demand food that is local, organic, fresh, and tastier, or as our grandparents called it…“food.”

So, start your new decade by treating yourself to our new hot soup station, kombucha on-tap, organic deli, locally awesome onions, superior squash, premium potatoes, gotta have garlic, and mouth-watering micro-greens. Whatever you need this year,  support the #DNFrevival by voting with your dollar and voting for your local co-op.

To ensure that DNF continues on a sustainable track, the Board has developed five new committees to help organize our efforts and effective stewards of the Co-op.
