Dewata If you want to give surfing a try Dewata Beach is a hidden gem. The gentle waves make it an excellent spot for beginners to learn surfing, while still providing enough excitement for seasoned surfers. Several local surf schools and rental shops are available, I recommend Raja Surf School, a lovely guy who thought all of us. |

Dalawella or better known as Wijaya Known for its natural swimming pool created by a coral reef barrier, this beach provides a safe and shallow area for kids to play. No waves at all. You can also swim with the turtles visiting the lagoon in the afternoons, but please don't touch them. Just behind the famous rock "the frog" you'll find one of the best rope swings. |
Unawatuna Beach The beach is lined with a variety of bars, restaurants, and cafes that cater to all different tastes. Besides snorkeling and diving, Unawatuna offers various water sports, such as jet skiing, paddle boarding and kayaking. The nightlife in Unawatuna is lively, with beach parties and live music. |

Kabalana This is probably my favorite beach in the area. It’s ideal for both playing along the shore and surfing or bodyboarding in the waves further out. The beach is lined with small sun huts, perfect for getting some shade from the strong sun. |

Habaraduwa Although this beach is NOT suitable for swimming, it deserves a spot on the list. Its beauty makes it perfect for long beach walks, and you'll witness the most amazing sunsets here. Plus, there are some beachside restaurants where you can enjoy a drink or dinner. |

Close to Tangalle - further to the east, but not to be missed |
| | No name.. A real hidden gem. Lovely and with one amazing restaurant. Google "Ranlakshmi Paradise Beach". |
| | Goyambokka Small secluded beach with soft sand and turquoise waters. |
| | Silent Beach Long beautiful beach that still is not crowded at all. A part of it is occpied |
Of course, the south coast is dotted with many more beautiful beaches, and I could go on forever about them. If you're traveling between Galle and Tangalle, we highly recommend stopping at these beaches: Mirissa: Secret Beach (not so secret anymore) and Parrot Rock Madiha/Polhena: For even more turtles and the cool restaurant Doctor's House Hiriketiya: For a laid-back surf life Mawella: Simply beautiful
