Little plants are pushing through the frozen dirt. Spring is unstoppable. |

I've never actually liked spring as a kid. It just feels too cold in the mornings, and I prefer HOT summer days. But then again, as a child in Oklahoma, I never experienced a snowy, hard, cold winter. This year, after a Nebraska winter with -20F temps and snow up to my knees, spring feels like a beautiful, impending miracle. I'm noticing each minute longer we get of sunlight. I'm looking for green buds on my walks. Spring is unstoppable. |

Speaking of spring, check out this BEAUTIFUL book that's coming out this September! |

This month I just wrapped up the final edits on these paintings, and I'm very pleased with how things came together. It's been a long process, but everything is finally submitted and off to the printer! Here's a quote from one of the authors on what this book is all about: "Join Etta Extraordinaire and her classmates on an unforgettable adventure to the White House! When their school organizes a field trip to the nation’s capital, Etta and her friends are bubbling with excitement. |

"With the spirit of democracy in the air, the class takes a vote, teaching Etta and her friends about the power of their voices and the importance of making decisions together... Available for pre-order now, Etta Extraordinaire Goes to the White House is a story of friendship, empowerment, and the magic of democracy." ~Charnaie Gordon |

Here's one of my favorite pages. This story involves LOTs of cherry blossoms. Last spring when I started drawing the sketches for this book, I created a mood-board in my sketchbook to inspire my work: |

It's February, and everyone is talking about their favorite books by black authors and illustrators in celebration of Black History Month. So here's one of mine! |
I went over to a public garden near my house to take these photos. You may not recognize the cover, because I usually take the dust jackets off of my books when I put them on my bookshelf. |

I love this book. Christian Robinson's shape-y, painterly style is simple yet emotional. It's thoughtful and powerful. This book has brought me to tears many times. |
Christian R masterfully zooms WAY out, out of our time, out of our planet, then zooms WAY in on your present emotion. Your present moment. I empathize with a meteor, then an ant. I feel seen. I feel heard. I laugh and cry through this poem. |
