El Paso encore

I visited my parents in El Paso over the weekend. Tequila Midnight is set there, and the main character in Portrait of Deception ends up there too. I love using El Paso and the borderlands when I write because while many have driven through the area, few people really know it. The desert is a land of opposites. It is both harsh and beautiful, full of people and cultures and achingly desolate. For me, it is a great place to set a novel.

I happened to be in town while editing the sequel to Tequila Midnight which will be out this summer. The afternoon I arrived we had two great El Paso experiences, fabulous Mexican food at the L&J Cafe and a gorgeous west Texas sunset.

The Orchid Tattoo by Carla Damron is set in South Carolina and deals with human trafficing. It was an engaging, important read by an author I admire.
