Meet these QTAPI Community Changemakers on Facebook and Instagram

May is AAPI Heritage Month...

...but allyship is year-round! We took this month to celebrate and actively uplift AAPI heritage, culture, and people by posting educational content, highlighting QTAPI community changemakers (see above), and sharing allyship resources on PCA’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. PCA stands against racism, hate, & violence. PCA stands with the AAPI community. Here are some resources that advance allyship and rally community support year-round:

  • National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA) seeks to build the capacity of local LGBT AAPI organizations, invigorate grassroots organizing, develop leadership, and challenge homophobia, racism, and anti-immigrant bias.
  • Prism Foundation, formerly GAPA Foundation, is a grassroots philanthropic organization that provides funds and leverages resources to empower the Asian & Pacific Islander LGBTQ+ community.
  • Hollaback! is a nonprofit organization to raise awareness about and combat harassment, both online and in-person, through intervention trainings, a photoblog, and grassroots initiatives.
  • Stop AAPI Hate tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, & child bullying against Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders in the U.S.

Feature PCA Member Team: CHEER Los Angeles

The Feature Member Team for May is Cheer Los Angeles! In past years, the #PCAPrideTour has kicked off with Long Beach Pride in mid-May, with Cheer LA hosting multiple PCA and Charitable Cheerleading teams for an oceanfront parade & festival in sunny So Cal (cue nostalgic Watch Party)! 2021 didn’t allow us to be together with Cheer LA, but we did get personal with an interview with Kristen V., Events Manager for Cheer LA.

Why has Long Beach Pride always been so special to Cheer Los Angeles?

Long Beach Pride has been a premier event for Cheer LA since 2002. As our team has grown, so has our relationship with Long Beach Pride and particularly with the organizations we’ve had the honor of working with over the years. We've been able to touch many people within the Long Beach community - which is an extension of the Los Angeles LGBTQIA+ community. Several members of our team also call Long Beach home and travel to West LA for weekly practices, so it’s important for us to have visibility in Long Beach and offer our support whenever possible.

What did Cheer LA do for Long Beach Pride 2021?

Cheer LA has had a long-standing relationship with local organization C.A.R.E., which offers comprehensive care, support, and housing assistance for those living with HIV and AIDS in Long Beach. We’ve partnered with C.A.R.E. since 2007 and couldn’t go another year without offering some form of support to the patients who we’ve been able to help over the years. We are excited to share that Cheer LA is raising money virtually for C.A.R.E. this May!

Learn more about Cheer LA and C.A.R.E. here.

What can our networks of PCA volunCHEERleaders, fans & partners do to "be with you in spirit" this month since we can't be together in person?

Please share our fundraiser for C.A.R.E. with your teams and networks to help us reach our fundraising goal of $750! Check out a fun virtual cheer that Cheer LA team members put together to celebrate Long Beach Pride month for C.A.R.E. and share, share, share!

PCA Development

Our family of Member Teams more than doubled in size, from 6 teams to 13 teams, in PCA’s first few years as a legal entity. COVID may have put the brakes on events and public appearances, but it has not stopped the wheels from turning behind the scenes! We have a HUNCH that you’ll see a BUNCH of new teams popping up all over the map! PCA’s New Team Development Consultants are here to help! Are you starting with just the seed of an idea, 3 friends, and ton of passion? Or do you already have a fully-functioning team just in need of some guidance to cross the finish line? Visit the Start A Team tab on the PCA website to learn about PCA criteria and benefits. Email info@pridecheerleading.org to get rolling!

Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2022: Pre-Register and Stay Informed

PCA leaders have been meeting to spread the word about Gay Games 11 Hong Kong, which is just around the corner (November 11-19, 2022)! But can you believe that it’s also “planning season” for Gay Games 12 in 2026!? Ask your PCA Delegate to keep an eye & an ear out for announcements from the PCA Gay Games Subcommittee (of the PCA Events Committee) about Site Selection for Gay Games 2026. It’s down to three stellar options: Guadalajara, Munich, & Valencia. CAN’T 👏 GO 👏 WRONG 👏 !
