Self: There’s so much - I’m at a loss in terms of wondering what I can do to help.
Wiser Self: It’s OK not to know – it’s OK to take a break.
________
It’s time to break my cone of silence.
Although I am grateful for work projects that occupy my mind, house projects have slowed in their urgency and there’s an unprecedented lawlessness to my list-making, book reading, dressing routine, writing schedule, exercise routine and more.
For example, a few weeks ago in an effort to take a stab at my core strength, I decided to start doing sit-ups. I did 18. Not 20 – not 10 – but 18.
At 18 sit-ups, I was finished – surprisingly satisfied. I felt complete. I rolled my eyes at myself and laughed out loud at the randomness of it.
There are many things unfolding in the world around us – and each of us has been impacted in different ways – it’s mind-boggling when I try to imagine the range of experiences we are all having with the pandemic, the racial revolution, the political landscape and more.
Sometimes it's challenging to know what to do - there are so many different places to focus - so much in disarray.
If we're lucky, we have the capacity to want to do - this can only be fueled by plentiful rest, abundant health, engaging work and/or joyful hobbies, and feelings of hope and gratitude that offer relief and moments of joy and laughter.
I wish this for you - I wish it for the friends and loved ones who are in your circle.
But if you ever feel at a loss and wonder what you can do to help because there is just so much – it’s OK not to know.
It’s OK to take a break.
There are people around us who are carving pumpkins and playing music and dancing.
What will make your heart lighter?
Find it - do it for yourself - and feel your core strength grow.
In many ways, It's the perfect time of year to refresh our perspective. The weather is crisper. The leaves are bursting with color. Nature calls us to spend time outside - to breathe the fresh air - to lay in the grass - to look up at the sun - and rest for a while.
Replenish the source within you - give yourself permission to take a break - and the rest will flow from there.
Sending you light and wishing you well.
