Vol. 6, No.11, September 21, 2020

Welcome Fall 2020!

Wow, it has been more 6 months since we had to close our doors and change our way of being.  However, we have all worked hard to keep SewGreen@Rochester alive and well, and we have many people to thank for that.

First, we want to thank you, our community, for your support by purchasing items from our online shop as well as in our shop by "shopping by appointment". Without you we would not have been able to meet the financial responsibilities of rent, utilities, and other expenses needed to survive.

We also want to thank the people that bring us wonderful donations so that we may pass them along to our community at such reasonable prices.

And finally, we want to thank all of our wonderful volunteers that help us keep our shop open. We have volunteers to support us in so many ways. For example, some take home bins of fabric and other items to measure and sort at home, others keep our community in the know by posting to social media sites, still others give technical support to the online shop and website by taking photographs and organizing the online data.

We look forward to a time when we are able to offer our sewing and needle craft classes in a safe face-to-face way, but for now, we hope to continue to stay afloat and bring you some fine fabric and supplies  through our online shop and our in store shop by appointment days.

And remember, Georgia offers FREE 30 minute sessions for anyone that needs help with their sewing machine every Thursday. Just sign up for a time online under "Appointments" on our website.

ART QUILTS ON DISPLAY

Before the days of shopping by appointment, we had classes and workshops. The members of "Experience Fiber Art" brought us several FREE workshops and they participated in our Annual Green Friday event.

Julie Brandon of "Experience Fiber Art" now has some of her beautiful art quilts  on display at the shop.

We hope to someday offer workshops again, but until then, we hope you have an opportunity to take a look at these beautiful creations in person when you are at the shop!

Cabinet Sewing Machines

Sewing machine cabinets provide you with a dedicated workspace as well as a way to keep a few notions and supplies organized and easily available. When closed, the machine is protected and out of sight. It becomes a small table for a lamp or a few books. When open the cabinet becomes your sewing space. With the extended cover and recessed machine it's quite a nice place to sew.

Cabinets are 31 inches high and generally about 20 inches deep and 23 inches wide. Cabinets with side drawers would be wider. The prices on our machines are well below anything on auction sites or craigslist. All machines we sell have been oiled and serviced and are in good working order!

The older cabinets are made of fine hardwood such a Walnut! And they are relatively easy to move. The machine itself is easily removed from the cabinet for moving or repair, and easily inserted back in for sewing. The heaviest machine weighs about 30 pounds, or about as much as a 2 year old child. The smaller machines weigh a little over 20 pounds.

Below are a few cabinet machines we currently have for sale, they are listed online, but you can also make an appointment a Thursday to meet with Georgia and take a closer look at these and other sewing machines in our shop.

SINGER Model 99 - $75.00

This machine is a Singer Model 99 with the "Eye" decals. The Singer 99 is the little sister to the workhorse machine, the Singer 66. The Model 99 is a 3/4 size of the full size Model 66. This particular machine comes with a hard to find 3/4 cabinet! Perfect for the smaller house or apartment. The machine itself weighs only 22 pounds. It may be smaller than the 66 but it is just as sturdy as the specifications for the 99 components were the same as for the 66 except for its 3/4 size.

SERIAL NUMBER: AM265931

Kenmore 158.13050 - $40.00

WOW, this beautiful workhorse of a machine can be yours for 40 dollars!

This machine was built in 1971, before the advent of all plastic machines. It has a bobbin case, and does a zig-zag stitch!

It uses a class 15 bobbin with a bobbin case. Parts are easy to find as many of these machines are still in use today!

MODEL: 159.13050

Free Westinghouse - $50.00

This Free-Westinghouse cabinet machine is so pretty you will love to sew with it. It has beautiful decals, uses a bobbin case, and has a beautiful straight stitch with reverse. Parts are easy to find.

Singer Model 66 - $75.00

The filigree decals are slightly worn, most likely because this machine has been hard at work since it came off the production line in August of 1947. The 66 is known for its large throat and heavy duty design. It was built to last and was considered an engineering masterpiece. Parts are easy to find as this was a very popular model. It has a drop-in bobbin and a nice straight stitch with reverse. Beautiful Walnut cabinet.
