The magic happens this month with everything beginning to go green.
It is also September is New Zealand's BEE AWARE MONTH So have a "hmmmm" about what offerings you can plant for the bees - after all, these little fellas do pollinate our fruits & veggies. Some suggestions for flowers to plant in your veggie garden include:
Cornflowers, Love in a Mist, Marigolds, Californian Poppies, Sweet Alyssum - or get your hands on a packet of Wildflower Mix seeds.
During the First Quarter, the moonlight becomes stronger although the gravitational pull becomes less. This is a great time to plant most seedlings.
The first quarter of the moon is an ideal time to plant root crops, being September, these include carrots, parsnip, & beetroot - it's also not too late to plant some onions. Plant your potatoes now. Also, sow any seeds you missed last week & take good care of all seedlings.
The first quarter is also a good time for planting trees, shrubs & other perennials. This is because the moon’s gravitational pull is at its weakest during the first quarter, making it the best time to plant trees & other long-term crops. Planting these now is said to help ensure the success of these crops - according to ancient Lunar Gardening practices.
