MAY 2024

TUESDAY, MAY 14th

FINAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING OF THE SEASON
WITH GUEST SPEAKER HEEJUNE SHIN

Don’t miss our next membership meeting Tuesday, May 14th from 4:00-5:30 PM at the Skidaway Community Church. Our guest speaker, HeeJune Shin, considers herself a colorist in the lineage of Monet. She creates an illusion of the light with colors. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, HeeJune spent many years in Minnesota before moving to the Bluffton area. Her work is currently displayed in the Four Corners Gallery in Bluffton.

Join us as HeeJune discusses the relationship between light and colors in nature. She will also explain her process and how it evolved from the skills she acquired learning the brushwork in Chinese calligraphy.

Check out HeeJune’s work here:  www.heejuneshin.com

2024 Spring Show & Silent Auction Is a Wrap!

The LAA would like to thank Spring Show Chair Jane Golz for another sensational Spring Show!

A message from Jane:

I hope you all had a chance to attend our Spring Show & Silent Auction in the ballroom April 16th. It was a lovely evening of live jazz, passed hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, socializing, and some really great art. We had 101 submissions from a total of 57 artists, and our three judges awarded a total of 15 prizes across 7 mediums. This year we increased our awards money and distributed $3500 to our winners.

The set-up of the show takes an army of workers and I’d like to personally thank all the chairs who so expertly brought their teams together to make it happen:

Sponsors / Diane Hartley

Labels / Sally Jones

Nametags / Daryl Nicholson

Poster Hanging / Betty Mitchell

Program Booklet / Diane Hartley

Screen Delivery / Doug McCulloch

Set Up / Gail Wickstrom and Hannah Burtnik

Ticket Sales / Kyle Wilcox

Hanging / Martha Hough and Mimi Diamond

Intake / Sandra Hodge and Becky Sullivan

Silent Auction / Penny Thompson and Chris Lanigan

Financial Records / Joni DiGiorgio

We were fortunate to have Hesse School children and their art teacher on site with an array of fiber arts they have produced with the Penny Thompson Arts in Education award received in 2023. The silent auction, chaired by Penny Thompson and Chris Lanigan, was a huge success again this year with a total of $2560 raised in grant money!

SAVE THE DATE for next year’s show, Tuesday, April 15th, 2025! We are looking for new leadership so if you’d like to learn more, please contact me and I can walk through the process.

Artists, please note that next year all registration forms and JPEGS will be due by Friday, March 21st. It’s not too early to begin working on next year’s submissions!
