Thoughts from the Chairman |

Hope on the Horizon, Greetings for 2024! Whether you have lived here many years or just moved here, a kettle of Republican activity is bubbling, and you are invited to participate in “fun-raiser” events, precinct gatherings, phone calling and door knocking – ain’t no stopping us now. Look at this newsletter to see a list of new, exciting candidates running in 2024; outreach efforts to grow our base; and ways to help during election days. There is reason for hope. Ask yourself…is there anything un-electable about safety, good education, strong families, free enterprise? These are parts of the Republican Platform. A summary of the Platform is included in this newsletter. I like to believe that our county will vote for these values instead of hanging onto a traditional party name. Buncombe is heavily Democrat. I hear it often: The Democrat machine is just too entrenched Republicans are not effective in getting in office Republicans want representation but don’t know how to build a base Republicans are fractured or “stride the fence”
No more! Stop repeating this nonsense. New year. New Party. New GOP culture. 2024 is our year to be seen and heard. Our values speak to all Americans; we are not alone. So, Wake up. Stand up. And vote in 2024. We’ll be knocking on your door this year! Decide to help us. Get involved with your GOP! See you soon. |

Candidate's Corner - Featuring Local Candidates for '24 |
Bruce O'Connell - BC Commissioner District 2 Bruce is a true conservative who, when elected, will focus on the issues that affect Buncombe County every day. These include our schools and what is being taught to our children. Bruce's educational philosophy is a back to basics one. He believes in merit based promotions for students and educators. He will work to bring discipline back to the classroom. |
Bruce will be a watchdog for our tax dollars and see that our infrastructure is no longer neglected. Water, sewer, roads, traffic patterns and the grid will all be on his priority list. He will support law enforcement and work to encourage cooperation between the Sheriff and Police departments. The homeless population problem will be priority. Bruce believes all homeless people cannot be treated with the same remedy. Mental health, drug problems, and unique situations all must be treated differently. He also believes there should be penalties for law breakers. Bruce will always protect our environment and emphasize smart development. He will work to protect our residents from being unduly burdened by skyrocketing tax valuations and the subsequent struggles many residents are facing to simply remain in their homes. In a nutshell, Bruce O'Connell will bring common sense and rational responses to the issues facing Buncombe County. |

“We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.” Thomas Jefferson |

Summary of the Republican Party Platform (ncgop.org) |
We believe: Our nation’s strength lies with the family. …In free market solutions, that wealth creation is the product of human enterprise. …In individual liberty: the right to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness, and the free exercise of religion. …In the sanctity of all human life.To assist women and empower with them with compassionate, life-affirming resources and care. …that in a free society, power should rest in the hands of the people. We believe in a limited government which serves the people, rather than one that burdens them. … in an honest and accurate election process – easy to vote, hard to cheat. …in an educational system that provides all children access to an education that empowers them to reach their highest, God-given potential, allowing them to contribute to the betterment of our society. …one of the main duties of government is to maintain law and order. …we are stewards of our God-given natural heritage, we have a duty to protect and wisely use the earth’s resources. The US Constitution is the supreme law of this land. As such, it outlines the foundational principles of this great nation. These principles include a legislature which creates laws, an executive who enforces laws, and a judiciary which interprets laws. To this end, we support the separation of powers and all efforts to maintain independent branches of government, based on a strict interpretation of the constitution’s original intent.

Federal dollars should not be used to block immigration enforcement “Everywhere I go in WNC, the top concern that I hear from constituents is about our border. It is clear that this administration’s open-border policies have turned every state into a border state. The Cooperation with ICE Act will stop rewarding sanctuary cities with federal dollars when they refuse to cooperate with ICE or try to block the enforcement of our immigration laws.” |
