Dear Parents/Carers,
Even though we have only been in school for two weeks of April, there has been a great deal going on at Sacred Heart.
This week, we were proud to present our amazing Performing Arts Summer Showcase: an evening of dance, drama and music performed by over 170 students from across the year groups. It takes great courage and confidence to get up on stage and perform like that. We are extremely proud to have such amazing talent in our school and throughout the evening we enjoyed acts from students new to performance, as well as those with huge experience.
We were also very proud to hear that Jazell Qasim in Year 12 won first place and a £100 prize in the recent ‘Durham Union Society’ Sixth Form essay competition. The Durham Union is Durham University's oldest and largest student society which was founded in 1842, famous for debating, and we know that Jazell fought off some tough competition from around the region to secure first place.
It was great to see our Year 11 and Year 10 Sports Leaders leading from the front and hosting our Year 3 Games Day, where they were able to hone their leadership skills and share their expertise. All 6 students were excellent role models to the younger students. Well done and thank you to Evie, Katie, Rikki, Libby, Ellie and Winter.
With GCSE public examinations starting on Monday 15th May, we are just over two weeks away from the start of exam season. Students in Year 11 and 13 are working hard and the atmosphere in lessons is calm and focused. Teachers are supporting classes with guided revision and lots of after school study is taking place. We wish our students all the very best, we know their hard work will pay off. Please keep them all in your prayers.
With best wishes for an enjoyable Bank Holiday Weekend,
Mrs Howell
