Aloha!
We’ve been busy bees! We started the month of September with a fun, live cooking demo at the Outrigger Canoe Club. Eat Pono was the featured book at The Reading Riggers monthly book club, started by Gerry Debenedetti, a long time Outrigger Canoe Club member, and book aficionado. Poet and I shared our experience about self-publishing our cookbook and provided a food demonstration making our nutrient dense Southwest Sweet Potatoes and Chocolate Avocado Pudding.
Next we headed to Barnes and Nobles Ala Moana for a book signing where we signed over 4 dozen books and greeted friends and new readers alike. A special mahalo to Haunani and Ross who hosted us and who work tirelessly to support local authors throughout the state with Barnes and Nobles nationwide. See the fun here!
One of the most exciting developments this month is our Blue Zone Certification! We are so excited to be a part of an organization that has a similar mission to Eat Pono - sharing and encouraging ways to make healthy choices. For more information on Blue Zones Project Hawaii and the amazing work they are doing to support health in the workplace, schools and community visit our website.
September is National Honey Month, and we were chosen by a swarm of bees as their new host. A few weeks ago, Poet came running in the house screaming that there were bees swarming and sure enough we found a swarm on our plumeria tree. We called Pete at Honey Bee Rescue Hawaii who came to our rescue and educated us on bee keeping. We are still in the learning phase, but for now we have decided to keep the bees, who knows if they decide to stay we may just have Eat Pono Honey in time for Christmas. #savethebees
