In the October newsletter we will make available a checklist of things you might want to bring. There will be ironing stations at 2 or 3 places around the room. You are welcome to bring items to sell - $10.00 per table (which goes to the guild). We have a “Christmas Ribbons” quilt workshop scheduled. Charity Quilts In the heat of August, our committee created some lovely quilts for our community. Five quilts plus two pillowcases were delivered to Peaceful Paths, Domestic Abuse Network. Six tiny quilts were taken to the NewboRN Home Visiting nurses for delivery to our rural areas. The in kind value totaled $660.00 for August. We had 12 members show up to work for the Charity Committee on Monday August 15th, quite busy and productive. Many kits were taken home to be finished. All members are welcome to the third Monday workshops at the City of GaInesville/Alachua County Senior Recreation Center, 5701 NW 34 Blvd, 32653 (across from Walmart) mark it on your calendar 10 A.M. till 2 P.M.! Bring your sewing machine and an extension cord along with your personal tools. Don't forget a bag lunch because we break at noon. The guild will supply your fabric, batting, and pattern to get you started. Sandee from NewboRN Home Visiting, Well Florida took this picture of the big sister who selected the quilt for her baby sibling. This is proof of the impact we have on our community. Anyone with questions or in need of a project quilt kit, please let me know. Sharon Fuentes, sfuentes10204@aol.com 386-418-1002 Thank you all for your dedication to others in need. |

Collaborative Quilt Project for 2022/2023 The project will begin with the September 2022 guild meeting and end with the August 2023 meeting. The overall theme of the collaborative quilts will be “My Favorite Quilt Block”, and the completed blocks should be 10½ inches, unfinished. Each member who is participating will start off their quilt by completing 2 (two) blocks of their choosing. The reason for having 2 blocks to begin with, is to allow for not making a block in the month of December, due to family & holiday obligations. Each member who originates a project box will also provide fabric to make a label for their quilt, which each participant should sign and date their signature/name as a contributor. Please allow sufficient fabric for a total of 12 signatures, as well as the location, date & name of the completed quilt. Each participant is to complete 1 (one) quilt block each month,of their choosing and place it in the project box, to be passed along at the next guild meeting. All participants will provide 3 fat quarters (or the equivalent in yardage or pre-cuts), from which subsequent participants may choose and/or add to, as that project box comes to them. Colors and any fabric designs are entirely up to the person who originates a project. All blocks and fabric are to be kept in a project box labeled with the name & phone number of the guild member who originates that particular quilt. Your phone number is only to serve as a reference line, should another participant need to ask any questions or to make arrangements to pass along a project box. Should the next participant in the list not be available at a meeting, to pass a project box along, the “missing” participant will need to also complete a “make up block”, as soon as they receive the project box. Please help to avoid confusion and additional work by doing your best to attend all guild meetings, or making arrangements to receive your next project box on your own. If you happen to miss a meeting, please also try to make arrangements with the member to whom you are to pass the project box, so they do not become backed up, as well.
A list of all who agree to participate will be compiled by Anne Mullis, and the order of who passes to whom will be emailed ASAP, following the August 2022 meeting. Following completion of the collaborative quilt pass around, in August, 2023, please do your best to assemble your accumulated blocks into a flimsy/quilt top, to be presented at Show & Tell, at the October, 2023 meeting. |
