Lunch and Brunch

The Cinnamon Grand's newest restaurant, Taste, has a range of buffets for lunch, brunch and dinner. Still at the Grand, the Cheers Pub has launched a nice Carvery lunch on Sundays. The Shangri-La  in the meantime have introduced a Yum Cha lunch at their Shang Palace restaurant.

For a weekend brunch, there's a growing choice. For a brunch with a view, if nature is your thing then Pranzo at Waters Edge has a good Sunday brunch; if you prefer city views then the Saturday brunch at Elevate offers these at high altitude. However for an all-round choice, Sunday's brunch at Cinnamon Lakeside might be hard to beat.

Dinner:

Most of the dinner deals at the moment seem to be in hotels. Thankfully there are some good ones to choose from. Plates, the new restaurant at the Cinnamon Grand, have both international buffet lunch and dinner. Over at Cinnamon Lakeside they have extended their buy-3-get-4 offer. The Galle Face Hotel's Verandah restaurant has a different theme each day. Away from the hotels, for this week, Indian Summer are offering two free naans with every curry (until 7Feb) 

To commemorate Independence Day this week, the Mandarina has a special dinner buffet on 4th February where they are also offering a deal: for three people paying a fourth dines free.  To celebrate on a boat, Garton's Ark also has a special buffet and sailing for Independence Day.

Happy Hours & Ladies' Night

There's a new happy hour at Colombar with 2 for 1 deals for up to five hour a day. There's also a few old favourites have returned: Honey Beach Club have brought back their 2 for 1 offer on a range of drinks. There's also a welcome return of happy hour at The Bavarian with buy one, get one free for two hours each weekday evening.

Wednesday is the night for ladies. There's a new weekly ladies' night at Kurumbar in Kandana with free French wine for ladies after 8pm. Closer to town, the Love Bar have a "Ladies' Colony" with a buy one, get one free offer all evening for ladies, and this week there's Sundowners by the Lake at Colombo City Centre with free cocktails for ladies. All on Wednesday.

If you prefer to wait for the weekend, then there's still Playtrix on Friday with free drinks for ladies after 10pm.

Live Music & DJs

There's lots to choose from this week on Wednesday, with The Notion at Kurumbar, Unscripted at Level4, OHME at CCC, OIC at Sunset Blu and Juke Box at A Minute by Tuktuk. There's the usual sessions as well: on Friday there's Believer at The Steuart,  Cold Sweat at Sunset Blu and Rock This Country at The Hilton, while on Saturday The Notion are back at In on the Green and Yohan & Honorine are at The Grove.

DJs will be on at many places after the band have finished. If live bands aren't your thing, then on Saturday "Clinical Trials" features multiple DJs at The Attic. 

Other New Events

On Thursday, if you prefer to celebrate Independence Day outside the city, you can join Ceylon Ramblers on a day trip to Yakdessagala.  This weekend, there's a pop-up "Bazaar at 570" on Saturday selling a variety of crafts, clothes, food and more.  

There's also a pop up local bazaar at Park  Street Mews on Sunday.

On Sunday, Garton's Ark are hosting a Family Fun Day with activities for kids and for adults.

It's not long till Valentine's Day. If you want to get into the mood, how about a sunset cruise? There's sailings on Saturday and Sunday, an afternoon sailing with snacks or evening sailing with a full dinner.
