WILLOW HARVEST

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I find myself taking the long view these days.  I am thinking about where I've been, taking in where I am and looking to where I am going.

Two years ago I was notified that I would be exhibiting at Artistry at the Bloomington Center for the Arts in January/February 2021.  It seemed so far off.  What a gift that the gallery re-opened and I could again haul sculptures, prepare things to hang and share install ideas with the curator.

I am so pleased and proud to greet my audience tomorrow night on zoom to talk about this exhibit Woven.  I hope you can join me and the 2 other amazing fiber artists.

As you may recall, I was awarded a Creative Support grant to fund the purchase of some high level photography lights and to update my website.  I had to chuckle as I received the funds on December 23, and had to make quick work of it to spend the bulk of it within a few days so I wouldn't end up with a substantial tax hit!

While doing the upgrade, I decided to include my multimedia work in the artwork gallery and shop.  I resonated with art critic and author Jerry Saltz when in his book How to Be An Artist he encouraged artists to see the expanse of their creative energy.

I feel as though I'm holding the "both...and..." during these times.  I wonder if you are too and, if so, what it looks like in your heart and mind.

Feel free to share if you'd like.

Martha

Collars for RBG

January 15 - March 6, 2021

Ruth Bader Ginsberg, longtime US Supreme Court justice known as "Notorious RBG" passed away in September 2020.  During her lifetime, she became an inspiration to many as a pop culture icon and was particularly known for her strongly worded dissents in response to some Supreme Court opinions.  To dress up her black robes, she wore a variety of collars that gave a clue to her opinion before it was even read.  19 artists join together to share work inspired by her collars.

I had fun with this one and not only did a create a dissenting collar sculpture in RBG's honor, but I also created a personal Dissenting opinion of my own to accompany it.

National Basketry Organization (NBO) President, Carol Eckert, has a fabulous daily blog highlighting basketry.  She selects a theme and then scours the internet for sculptures/baskets that exemplify the theme.

It was a surprise and honor to see that my sculpture Said/Unsaid was selected for the theme "Extended" on December 23, 2020
