"Poʻi Nā Nalu has been there for me throughout my years at HCC. Although I may not have used all the resources they offered, I knew that I could always count on them if I needed to. Now that I am finished with school, I am working as a full time technician at Honolulu Ford. I hope to gain my ASE and Ford certifications within the next year to save up enough money and move out to the mainland. I just would like to say thank you Poʻi Nā Nalu for assisting me during my time here at HCC. I am beyond grateful for all that you have done. Much Mahalos." "Since first starting Cosmetology in Fall 2017 Poʻi Nā Nalu has welcomed me into their ʻohana. They have provided me with academic as well as personal guidance and counseling. They have been to numerous of my events (Cosmetology, Phi Theta Kappa, Star) to support me in my journey. So many resources were made available to me through Po’i Nā Nalu and I definitely took advantage of them. Resources such as computer use in the peaceful Hawaiian center as well as financial support for my training events and Honor society dues. I participated in two internships through Po’i Nā Nalu while at HCC and did a few community events. All of which has helped me be a better student, professional and human being. Now that I have completed the Cosmetology program at HCC, I am transferring to the University of Hawaii at Mānoa where I will pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art. I feel that Cosmetology has ignited my creativity and I want to continue to create! The possibilities are endless and that is so exciting. I am going to school full time and I take care of my grandmother at home. My future goals are to graduate from UH with my BA in Studio Art then I’d like to do a semester abroad in Italy next spring semester (2020) and stay the summer exploring Europe. I plan to continue my work as a Cosmetologist and eventually get my own space where I can do hair and service my clients. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Po’i Nā Nalu for helping me and supporting me on my educational journey. I would not be where I am without their Aloha and support. Mahalo nui loa!" Last week we said "a hui hou" to one of our sailors. Mark has been a fantastic Peer Mentor/ Math tutor for Poʻi Nā Nalu for two years. We wish him the best as he lifts his anchor and pursues his dream of becoming a pastor at Pacific Rim Christian University. You will be missed Mark! Aloha. |
