Lived Experience Consultants Update

Find out what the Lived Experience Consultants are up to and information about events and opportunities for Home Stretch young people.

The Lived Experience Consultants Tyler, Jett and Brayden pulled off an epic event at Escape last month! As you can see by the photos above and the one at the start of the newsletter, a great time was had by all. These events are a great way for young people to connect with the consultants and the YAG, so we would encourage you all to spread the word to the young people you work with.

They are busy planning the next event at the Gaming Lounge in Cannington on Thursday 2nd May from 4-8pm. You can find all the details in the flyer below.

Where do I Start?

Transition Coach Training Guide

The Transition Coach Training Guide has been uploaded to the website to support Home Stretch WA Transition Coaches in their induction to the Model and implementation with young people.

It consists of a mix of selected video recorded sessions and presentation slides of previous in-person and online training. It is designed to be followed from the first Practice Area - Smooth Transition, in order, through to Staying On and additional topics. However, if needed, Coordinators can vary the order to meet the specific needs of their team.

This training schedule is an interim measure until the Online Learning Modules are released by the CoP in 2024.

You can access the training guide via the website here:

You asked, we answered!

Questions that have been asked by you:

Q1. How many Driving Lessons does the Department fund young people?

There is no policy or directive on totals funded or maximums for any items/services that sit within the legislative use of those funds. There are differences between each District as to what is approved for each young person wanting to access funding for driving lessons, as Leaving Care Funds are approved by each District Director or Assistant District Director. Q2. Does the Department fund young people for Ambulance cover and does this include non-urgent and urgent cover?

Some Districts fund cover for young people for both non-urgent and urgent ambulance cover, some only urgent and some don't fund any. It is dependent on each District's directive and can be negotiated with the young person's Post Care/Case Manager.  It is also something that the Department head office is looking into across the board.
