Signed on July 26, 1990, this important civil rights law prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. |

Meet Cindy Copp Cindy, a resident of Tioga County, first reached out to our advocacy team in 2017 for support as she was homeless due to the inability to find environmentally safe, affordable housing. Cindy has multiple invisible disabilities, one being Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). MCS is a disorder in which patients can become ill from environmental exposure to low levels of largely petroleum-based and often unrelated chemicals, including cleaning products, detergents, diesel exhaust, formaldehyde, plastics, carpets, epoxy, pesticides, and some synthetic and natural fragrances. Cindy worked with our staff to communicate her needs to the housing administration to ensure she had a healthy environment to live in. Shortly after occupying her apartment in 2019, Cindy became the “go-to” person for her neighbors who encountered barriers to Independent Living. We assisted Cindy and other residents to meet with PA State Rep. Clint Owlett to express safety concerns and joined Cindy for the monthly housing authority meetings. Cindy wanted to be a greater advocate and felt the best way to accomplish this was to run for public office. Cindy appeared on the May 2023 primary ballot for a position on the Wellsboro Council and is looking forward to the November 7th General Election. Cindy attributes the support she receives from RTFCIL as the primary reason she decided to run for the borough council. “Working with my CIL advocate has given me the confidence to run for office. I know if I need support, it’s a phone call or text message away.” |

Do You Want Internet Improvements? Does your internet cause you headaches? Do you face challenges using the internet or devices? Pennsylvania Needs to Hear from You! The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) is developing plans to help alleviate issues, but we need to hear from you to help it succeed. The internet has become a vital part of our society, and its use only continues growing. Homes and communities throughout the Commonwealth still face challenges getting – and staying – online. The good news? CHANGE IS COMING! The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is expected to receive substantial federal funding for the purposes of broadband expansion, adoption, and literacy as part of the federal government’s historic funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The PBDA is currently gathering input and data for its Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) and Digital Equity (DE) plans. The PBDA has launched a public survey to hear from residents across Pennsylvania as a part of the planning process. Please consider responding to the Broadband Connectivity and Digital Access Survey that is available at www.surveymonkey.com/r/PA_BCDA. Your participation is appreciated and is essential to supporting our collective interests in fast, reliable high-speed internet service for everyone. If you’d like to learn more about the PBDA’s Internet for All: Connecting the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania initiative and see what community events are scheduled, visit dced.pa.gov/internetforall. |
